here's one for jay.. i didn't want to post this one until it was done but eh... ran out of ideas on how to finish it off so here i am... hitting you gus up for ideas...

i have something planned for the hood already but i'm just plain out of ideas for what to do with the rear bumper... i'm just trying to break away from going to the jgtc for inspiration. i remember someone saying that the jgtc has some pretty outrageous body kits on them but they also tend to take away from the original body shape of the vehicle. i found that to be true so i gave up on some of my other projects to try and finsh a kit that resembled more 'street' or 'showroom' style than track. with that said, the rear bumpers i've seen on the nsx have this rear diffuser that you normally see on the jgtc nsx cars. i wanted to stay away from that but there's not much out there that doesn't incorporate that style... anywhoo... this is going to be my first time trying to thermoform ths small clear plastic lense for the headlights. i've envisioned them to come out in a sloped angle from the housing. if i can't pull it off, then it's just going to sport a clear plastic piece just flush with the edge. either way i think it'll suit the car well.

i've gone away from the widebody look and simply added a bit of definition to the rear quarters of the body... just to be different...

i've found myself examining and measuring almost every modification that i've done thus far... i don't know why i do it so don't ask me... i guess i just don't want that nagging feeling about 'i should've done this more cleanly the first time' bugging me when i finally lay down the paint but at this rate, i'll probably finish by the time the next AFMOTY comes around!

so i hope you like it thus far and i wouldn't mind your comments regarding the direction the rear bumper modifications should go...

I think those subtle mods will suit this car, I agree with your concept since the NSX has a nice shape already, I like the side skirts and front lip just gives the bottom end of the car a little bit more definition. as far as the lights that too should look a treat, you might also be able to drop in 2 twin lenses and maybe a small lense for the indicators with a clear covers on top.

I definately like this idea since im also in the process to undertake a similar project for another MR2 complete with engine, opening doors, trunk and hood, the works. im interested to see how you go with this one. im still in the planning stages.

Your Acura NSX 24101 instruction booklet has reference pics that my Honda NSX 24100 and Honda NSX-R 24126 instructions do not have.

All your NSXs are belong to me. :jump3:

What about an under-splitter like on the F360, like trapazoids around the tailpipes, instead of the big plate-with-fins JGTC standard?

IMO the rear spoiler should be wider to follow the side skirts. The front headlights looks fine, I'll follow this thread to see it finished.

While first reading your post I was thinking "cut off everything from under the rear bumper and throw in a diffuser like I wish I had done.... oh..."

I must agree, that it's hard to think of anything non-track inspired to do to the NSX. I mean, after all, it is designed to be a track car in most every aspect (Honda's own exotic!). The only thing I can think of is to make it smooth instead of segmented. Either cut the bumper off and make the whole rear end extend down flush, or add material flush to the rearmost extent of the bumper, and extend it down to the bottom edge of the car, running the exhaust through holes in the bodywork. But, I'm not that creative.

This car is looking great. Can't wait to see it. But I guess I have to wait a while, eh?

Looks good. Just keep us posted.
I'm really digging the kit on the white NSX. Maybe you should try a body kit like that on it or something.

This is looking good so far. I have the same NSX and wanted to do something similar, but I'm stuck. Hope to see more progress soon.
On a side note, that carbon-bodied NSX is sick. :eek7:

hmmm.... non track inspired ideas for an nsx... I know, why not bring the bodywork down and inword and then cut two holes for the exhaust each one on either side of the license plate! (just an idea)

Great work, keep it up! :iceslolan

thanks for the replies. that carbon fibre nsx looks pretty outrageous! i like that white nsx as well. wish i saw that front end before i did mine.

the front end for this one came from an actual nsx that i see every so often in my area. it has the same headlight conversion and simple sideskirts and definition on the rear quarters. however, i failed to take notice of the rear bumper. the front bumper is similar but without pictures, i'm just doing it from memory. it has a unique hood vent as well. i'll have to search the web for the hood vent but i don't think it'll be that hard to find.

its just the rear bumper that's kinda got me stumped right now. if only i can see what the white one has on the rear... that's the kind of look i am trying to achieve... something that is a bit simple yet elegant... i have to admit, that white nsx looks very clean and neat... the modifications work compliments the original body lines of the car well.

i worked on it this weekend and was excited to put some primer on it to see how it would look... a bit disappointed with the flaws in the bodywork but no biggie. i gave up on looking for a rear bumper so i just took the easy way out and modeled it after a photo i saw some time back... not the sharpest looking rear bumper but... eh... i like it just the same. what do you guys think about the rear bumper?

I don't know what's up with me today, but I seem to see all the best models ever made, which your come into play as the best model of a NSX IMO in the making, I simpply adore it and love the subtle yet stylish mods to it!

Keep it up and it ll be a masterpiece (yet again)

what do you guys think about the rear bumper?I like it. Will the triangular sides be filled an rounded off, or is that where the tailpipes are going?

Smoothed out with primer, the front end looks HOT!! :D

12-08-2003, 05:56 PM
thanks for the replies. i'm probably going to leave the back end open the way it is. i think the paint is going to take away the empty feel of the 'negative' space that it currently has.

with the primer on, i can see a couple areas on the front bumper that needs profiling... i'm going to have to redo the hood as well... as it turns out, with the panel lines of the hood scribed back in, the hood vent looks slightly tilted... sucks... i'm going to have to rip out the hood vent and file it back straight and redo it... oh well... give me another week... we'll see how it progresses.

I started my NSX last night, and after seeing yours, I'm hanging it up. You are the wide body master. I wish I had those skills.

appleseed
12-08-2003, 09:02 PM
thanks for the compliments guys. however, the body was not made wider at all... the rear quarters were just beefed up a bit to give that impression... a very subtle detail which can be overlooked but it does make a pretty convincing 'wider' look doesn't it? now i just have to redo the hood and clean up all the transition areas.

thanks for looking!

Words cannot describe how awesome it looks. I like the addition of the gas filler and the hood. You still have some of the best putty work around. You have to finish this!

appleseed
03-07-2004, 05:15 PM
thanks guys. the back end is very similar to the original. i just made them extend a bit lower. kinda subtle. i didn't like the way the first changes were made when i revisited this kit. tastes change i guess...

for those who care, i really messed up with the location of the filler cap... it should be on the left hand side rather than the right hand side... as it turns out, i checked the insturctions for the original location for the filler cap and guess what... the tamiya instructions contradict themselves... on the side view, it appears on the left hand side... however, on the overhead view, it appears on the right hand side... it didn't occur to me that it was a boo boo until i put in the headlights and polished up the body... oh well... we'll call it artistic interpretation :iceslolan

the color... eh... i stole another bottle of nail polish from my fiancee's stash... shh... she doesn't know it yet... :icon16: the color looks like a dark cranberry / wine type deal... come to think of it... i haven't seen it in the sunlight yet...

the plan to finish it off (when i pick it back up again...) is to have the original wing put on in black. i think that should compliment the body color well.

I bet Tamiya just flipped the overhead view for the LHD Acura kit ...

Edit: You might think about the NSX-R II wing, maybe, to suit your other changes? Seems like it would flow well with the other vertical extensions you've made...

when you put on the styrene sideskirt, you cut off the place were it goes or you just glue it above? (im sorry about the crappy english, but i don't use a translator)

Looks awsome! Can't wait to see the rest of the build up. I have a silly question...when you use nail polish...do you airbrush it (if so, at what PSI) or handbrush it, since it kinda self levels (or would appear to do so on past girlfriends finger nails).

appleseed
03-11-2004, 08:56 PM
thanks guys! the putty is automotive grade polyester putty bought from the auto supply store... good stuff... kinda hard to get used to at first but works out great.

the nail polish was shot through an airbrush at a relatively low psi... probably 20 or less... as i used automotive lacquer thinner for this, i was a bit scared to lay it on wet. the whole paint job was done through countless mist coats (can you imagine how long that took me!?). i'm realtively new to working with nail polish so i'm most likely working very inefficiently and being overly cautious. one thing that i found out is that nail polish is not as opaque as hobby colors. just an observation.
