Anyone heard of this? I talked to a Clifford/Viper installation shop here in town and they reccommended this system to me. It is supposed to be $400 installed. It comes with a two-way paging LCD remote, a regular 5-button remote, and all the high-end seurity features like a dual zone shock sensor, immobilizer function, and all the basic zones like doors, trunk, hood, and optional glass-break. It doesn't have remote-start, but that's cool cuz I dont want that anyway. I was just wondering if this sounded good to you guys and if you have heard of it before. According to the owner, this paging system for the alarm has a 2-3 mile range, but I'll bet its more like 3/4-1 mile.

Anyways, thoughts? Comments? I plan on getting this on Saturday but would like to know if its no good or not or if there is a better one for less etc...

Thanks for info,

DW

for what it does the price does not sound too bad. the paging range however seems unrealisticand moreover useless. find out if ita a DEI product. if so then your worries should be reduced. the thing with alarms is while you can find a unit that has a lot of bells and whistles the question comes down to quality and reliability. you can get a unit that does all you mentioned for a lot less. but how much of a pain to own will it be. best advice - shop around and friends word of mouth based on experience is crucial. good luck.

Nope, DEI would never sell an alarm like that. :grinno:

Yup, the company is Astra, the model is 777. It's Astra's top model. Not DEI at all. I went ahead and got it. It's a new system, but so far it seems pretty basic. I havn't been able to really test it yet, but I can tell you that the install guys did a great job. It only lacks a trunk alarm/release, which I think I am going to have added for about $50. Other than that it seems like a pretty solid system. I like it xcept for the trunk deal. After I test it I will give a final verdict. But that will have to wait until after finals at Uni...

$400 for just a two way alarm and 50 for trunk pop?????? Did you check around? Not to be rude but you got hustled. We do the Valet 554r alarm r/s for 399 and it includes keyless and trunk pop. I've never heard of Astra not to say that it's bad but i dunno. I had the pleasure of installing a full Clifford AvantGuard5 in a 2003 Range Rover today. 6 hours of pure misery but it all turned out ok in the end...

well turns out the trunk part was supposed to be installed they just didn't do it for some reason, lol. So they hooked it up for zip. And mine has keyless also. Along with the immobilizer, and ignition activated door lock. I might have paid a little too much, but I didn't get hustled. And it was worth it because the dealer is the best in the nation, and for sure the oldest. He has a plaque that says his dealer is the oldest in the world. It didn't look forged but meh. It's pretty good, and I can add all kinds of stuff to it, it has a bunch of channels. And the range here in town is about 1/4 mile. Good enough for me.

Where is this place and from who did they have the plaque??? Anyone can make a plaque. Sounds like they seem forgetfull. I hope they didn't forget anything serious!!!

don't blow smoke up my ass boy. The best in the nation? I work for Audio Communications which was est.1978. We have tons of those plaques from kicker dei and jl. As well as magazine spreads of cars we've done. But i would never call my shop the best in the nation. Anyhoo sorry i just read that last part and got a little pissed....

well sorry to offend you. I was just sayin what he said. And I meant the installers anyways. But obviously that's a load of crap. Because I had to go back after I got it cuz they knocked a fuse out and my a/c wasn't working... But anyways, the system is fine as far as I can tell. A lot of false alams tho that are getting anoying....

Yep, that's one thing I love about DEI stuff. That Stinger Shock sensor seems to be one of the best out there. I rarely ever have a false alarm. :iceslolan

I just installed the Astra 777 system in my 2001 Honda Civic yesterday.
So far it seems like a sweet system. This was the first time in installation a secureity system, but it was fairly straight forward. I did have trouble locating the some of the wires though. I looked all over the net and found some wire diagrams for my car, but none were all that detailed. I'm still having trouble location a few wires. The dome light wire, and the positive door trigger, and the negative door trigger. As for the Door triggers wires I',m not sure I'm suppose to hook up or not though. I read somewhere that only Ford has them, but that didnt really some right.

Anyway I mail ordered the Alarm for around $72.00 US plus shipping, and it took me around 3 hours to install it, with about a hour or so just find the right wires. If I had to install it again in my car, I would only take about 2 hours I bet. But I figure it saved me alot, so it was well worth it.

I would like to get a couple more options installed like the hood switch, and a battery backup feature would be nice, and many be a motion sensor of some sort.

ATTENTION ALARM INSTALLERS
I was wondering something. My sons about 19 years old and isnt too sure what he wants todo for a living ( job wise) . But if I could get him interested in installing Serios, and car alarms, sounds like theres pretty good money in it. I'm in the Seattle area, and I know theres alot of stores here like Cartoys, Circuit City, Bestbuy. etc.. that all have Car Alarms and installation deals, but they all seem to be very expeensive for an alarm like this one to have installed. So what do most of the private installers get? and do you think theres a market for private installers in the Seattle area. ( Thanks )
