2JZ in Chevelle, cool idea or sacrilege?

I've heard of import motors being put in classic american muscle, and want to know if you think it's awesome or the absolute most idiotic things you've ever heard

I would never do it. Not to take anything away from the import motors but there are just too many good US motors out there to be had.

Man dont do that! You'll lose the sense of what muscle means.... Please dont be stupid by puting a japanese engine in an american....the car will lose its dignity and will wanna die.................

I would definitely have to say it is sacrilege. Even from a pure functionality standpoint it would be stupid. The best thing about the old musclecars is the engines you can conveniently put in them. Why not build a big block chevy, buy something like the Edelbrock power package and put down over 550hp in a street driveable car? Not to mention you could do this without spending more than 2000-2500 bucks. Look at how much money you'd have to spend on even a turbocharged jap motor to get that kind of power.

Hmmm....2JZ..:
- all aluminum 3.0 DOHC inline six
-stock internals that regularly are boosted past 700hp
-two turbos or one huge one....

How bout a ZL1?
-all aluminum big block
-starts at 427ci but can be as big as ???
-can make similar power easier
-bolts in and is way more impressive

Keep the 2JZ in an ol'skool Celica or Corolla. If you got the hankerin' for turbos, build a nasty small block or a killer big block.

A lot of people would hate you for that, but it's your car & money, do what you want with it. The 2JZ Supra & Chevelle are in the same weight range. There are other engines that would be a LOT easier to swap, but honestly all that really matters is results. If you have the money & know-how to do it, go for it. If you want real power out of a 2JZ you need a BIG single turbine. A buddy of mine here in Okinawa got 714 Rear wheel HP out of his, but it cost him $30,000 to do it. That's just for his parts, tuning & labor, not including the car. It would be a very difficult swap, as far as fabrication goes. It would cost a lot to do it right, I think you'd be better off with building up a big block, but the choice is yours.

I think that its sacrerligious to put an import engine in an American Muscle car. You should be proud to have it and have pure american carburated muscle.

Dont do it man. the classic american muscle cars are only meant to have american engines. the car Gods would be very angry at you. plus to build a jap engine would cost way more than it would to build an american engine. Plus one guy up on the replies was talking about a 700 some horse jap engine. Well yeah thats alot of horse but Torque is just as important if not more. Torque is what you feel when you shoot out of the whole. the american v8 would give you that...
