can i fix an AC compressor?

my AC compressor went, I need a new one, but my AC doesnt work anyway. i only need the compressor for the belt. (puttin a non AC belt wont work.) is there anyway i can fix the compressor, or do something disconnect something, or anything so i dont have to replace the whole compressor? i have an 87 cutlass ciera 2.8 thanks...

if the compressor doesnt work it should just spin freely. if you dont care about having a/c, then just leave it. it only puts load on the system when the clutch is engaged.

it spins freely, but sometimes it makes a loud like whining noise, and it smokes. i dont think theres a load on it, i dont use the air.

you could just pick up a used on from a wreckers. 3 bolts and its on. takes a half hour in your driveway.

Does it only make noise in defrost mode? Compressors will turn on in defrost. If this is the case unplug it.
