Confused about GT's

Are there 3 GT's and 1 prototype of just 3 gt's outright???

I have seen pictures of a metallic purple one, a metallic blue one and a darkish green one while around thread I read here says there is a black one also but no pics have been seen.

Thankyou in advance if anyone answers this. I think the F1 is the best car ever but I don't know that much about it yet so I've been reading the threads here to learn more.

There are only 3 F1 GTs - total.

The first was the prototype - 56XPGT - painted Silverstone Green, though much like XP5 (the last road car prototype which is the same color) it can often appear black in photographs.

The second was 54F1GT - this car was painted black and is believed to be in the collection of the Sultan of Brunei, hence the lack of photographs.

The final car is 58F1GT - painted burgundy. This car is in the collection of a Japanese man who's name remains a mystery. Depending on the calibration of your monitor, the few photos which exist of this car could be thought to be Metallic Purple.

I'm not sure about the metallic blue one you are referrencing - possibly that is the Team Carl F1 GTR longtail which might appear to be an F1 GT with a spoiler. This car is one of the '97 long tail GTRs and is not one of the three road going GTs. If you post the photo you are referring to, I'm sure I can confirm it.

Edit: Here's a shot of the car I was referring to:

http://files.automotiveforums.com/attaches/62575/29496.attach

My real guess on the metallic purple one you have seen photos of is that it is possibly the 1/12th scale model that was recently showcase in a Japanese modeling magazine. Again, if you post the photo you are referring to, myself or someone else here will be able to set you straight.

Hey peloton, did you ever send that e-mail to Colin Curwood about which GT was used in the photoshoot?

Screen grab from Brundles "Super Cars".
Its an added extra on the DVD which is a tour of the new Mclaren facility where brundles tells you about the F1 road car, LM and GT and also shows you the assembly line of the new SLR.

Thank you. The blue car I was talking about is the one in that Brundle DVD. It looks blue on my tv. Must just be messed up and it is pretty old. I'm watching that DVD now for like the 20th time.

That photo above is one of the most accurate representations of the color I have seen actually. tvrfreak also took some good photos of that car when he was there at the factory. Let us know if you haven't seen those pictures.

Well I for one wouldn't mind a gander at them.

Incidently the cars pictured are the GT prototype, XP LM and #065 formerly of Park Lane showroom fame. XP5 was swapped with this car about a month before.

This is indeed the new place. Note the boarded, unfinished areas and also the full-sized car lifts in the background.

Also, interesting article on MB's Supercars:

Here's the link to tvrfreak's photos that I mentioned:

Thanks for the link you provided and for the continued info you are sharing. Maybe you want to keep a low profile, but I have a strong feeling you are more closely connected to the McLaren Cars project than you have identified. If you care to share, we're all ears. Either way, I really appreciate your participation here so far!

Very astute of you Peloton25. Let's just say I am more towards the beginning of my career than the end and would rather not scupper my chances at this early stage.

tvrfreak's photos are cracking. I would guess they were taken sometime in 2002. Am I right?

I was thinking the same thing yesterday. Your insight to several things is very interesting. Keep it coming.

I've heard her pretty close up before, not moving so without dog-box whine and OMG what a noise!

I've never been happier to be in so much pain - the road car sounds like a 1.0L four-pot in comparison!

Hey thanks - it was becoming fairly obvious, I was just the first one to mention it. Any chance they're hiring over there and willing to train? :D I'm a hard worker, but don't have much (read: any) experience in building or designing cars. I do change my own oil and a few other things, so I'm not a complete dolt. ;) In another thread I even mentioned I'd sweep the floors. :naughty:

Seriously though, it's great to have your participation, and I don't think any of us would expect you to jeopardize your career for our benefit. Share what you can and keep your nose clean.

Incidentally, you may have caught this in the other thread as well, but I got to see the long tails run at Laguna Seca here in 1997 - it was truly awesome!
