Turbo B18B1 or All Motor B16A

Hello, I am so torn between these two options. I am planning to spend $5000 or less including the price of the car. (2G MPFI CRX)
This car will be a sleeper except exaust.
I either want a B18B1 with a Garett T04E or an All Motor B16A. If I was going to go Turbo B18B1I would want something like this:
Car 1:
B18B1 Engine, Tranny, Mounts, and Axels
Better Head Gaskets (recommend a company please)
Aftermarket ECU (recommend as well)
New plugs and plug wires
Bashed-out cat for racing, and Cat-Back exaust
Custom Exaust: (unless kit is cheaper)
Garrett T04E (what size wastegate? any BOV recommendations?)
440CC Injectors
Apex'i Boost Controller
Anything else I could fit in for under 5k?
Car 2:
B16A Engine, Tranny, Mounts, and Axels
Performance ECU
Better Crank Pulley
Header, New Cat, Exaust
Cams, Retainers, Valve Spings
CAI
Anything Else?
I like the CRX's potential but I usually do Inline-6s or larger. I wont have anyproblem doing all the work myself, some of the cars I have modified include:
89 Supra TT
B18C1 pistons Del Sol
Edelbrock Turbo kit on a VTec Civic (D Series)
T76 on an R13 RX-7.
A few 305 Camaros
Two 4.6L fords (A lincoln and a mustang)
Lastly a 395 Chevelle SS

Go with a b18 turbo, it will be more wear and tear on ur car to go all motor and put out less HP, and go slower than a turbo will, when u turbo ur motor has to do less wirk to put out more HP, plus every one has a b16 rex, good luck on doing it under 5K though!!!!!!!!

You can't even compare an LS turbo to a B16A with some bolt ons and maybe cams, they are two COMPLETELY different animals.

word to that. Also it comes down to what you want. I myself rather take the b16 allmotor then a turbo B18b. I understand that the turbo would be faster but i enjoy N/A over forced induction for honda motors. So if you want fast both good faster =turbo b18 but remember what suits you is key.

With the mods that he plans to do if he goes all-motor, the all-motor setup would create less wear on the engine than a turbo setup. Adding a turbo is like placing an oven under the hood of the car; not exactly the best idea if you want a long-lasting engine. Then again, if he wants a race-ready car or one to have fun with for a couple of years, I'd go turbo. He'd definitely be faster for the same amount of money.

You cant compare an economy car from the late 80s to an exotic car of 2000. Technology has improved quite a bit since then, plus thats like if I compared a 1989 Lamborghini Diablo to an 89 B18B1 CRX HF.
Maserati Corsa and Spyder/Spyder GT are all over 200K If i put 100K into a crx I am sure that it would well pass the specs of the corsa and I would put a tun of suspension upgrades so it would handle better to, then i wuold put a ton of looks upgrades so it would look as cool if not cooler..... then i would take the remaing money and put it into sound and then take the money after that and throw a party...then i woudl just roll in the bit of $$ i wuold have left....

Are you high? Adding a turbo increases wear and tear because more air/fuel is being added for hotter/stronger combustions than normally meant for the block no matter how reinforced it is. Turbo Hondas can be very fast, but au-naturale feels so much more direct than having power spool up "beyond" the gas pedal. It's a feeling I never really liked, no matter how fast the car is, and I think I'll stick with my header instead of a snail shell even if I am slower. I will be driving around with the same engine longer than Mr. Boosted.

Sorry to inform you but your wrong in some cases yea uf u boost like 25-30 lbs, mah teachers at Honda/acura tech school, explained that a built all motor will not last as long as a built turbo, because if the fact that your putting more stress on the motor to squeze every lil hp out of the motor, as far as reving higher, hondas make more HP at high rps than they do at lower rpm's, parts are moving faster, hiting harder, and getting hotter that a motor that is turbo, we did a TMT test in class and it showed that a turbo motor the parts on and in a motor are over 75 degrees cooler than a N/A motor with an outside temperature of 78 degrees, with a N/A CAI and front mount inter-coolerin a b18a with a strait T4, turbo motor dosent have to rev as high as N/A to make more HP...........ill get him to email me the class disk he has this info on and ill post in on here..........

My engine came stock ready to rev to 8400 and I'm not going to build it go any higher than that. With some internals done, bored/stroked to a 1.8, and the basic bolt ons I could see around 230 hp with a descent amount of torque. That's a guesstimation, but that will be fast enough for what I need to get to work and blitz down the 1/4 in the 14's, reliably.

I agree, it all depends on your goals. If you want to run 9's, a turbo is a financailly wiser and more feasible option than all-motor. For a decently fast daily driver, however, I'd choose all-motor over a turbo any day. Not to mention that fact that I wouldn't want to take the chance of screwing up an engine as rare and expensive as yours.

Dude, stop while you are behind. 25-30psi on a Honda, get a fucking clue, and you "Honda/Acura tech school teachers"? And what qualifies a Honda/Acura tech to teach anything about boost other the discussing the Beat?
with a N/A CAI and front mount inter-coolerin a b18a with a strait T4,
Could you explain that a little better? I am having a hard time picturing a CAI and a front mount intercooler? Are you comparing them, if so try useing an "and then" instead of "and", it's less confusing.

I understand what he said perfectly fine. Hes saying that a turbo wont ware your engine as much unless your running an amount of compression that isnt feasable which he pulled 25-30lbs ut of his ass as an example. He also said that the turbo that wares less (within reasonable compression) was intercooled had a modified air intake.

OK how bout this...with $5000 dollars to spend....a turbo B18b will be the best route in terms of speed...a N/A b16 engine will not even compare to the power of a turbo b18b engine..so if u want a fast ass car for 5000 dollars then go with the turbo...cuz 5000 dollars on a N/A engine is not enough to keep up with a turbo...anyone want to argue with that then go ahead and waste ur time ..i know i am right.
And ricochet...turbos can be extrmely reliable when tuned properly and the right upgrades are used...so when ur N/A "more reliable" car is at the track...my turbocharged,RELIABLE, engine...will smoke you..period.

dont believe anything black89crxLs says. hes already been banned from two local sites here in louisiana for talking trash, lying to people, and selling parts he doesnt even have. his name on www.sportsnimports.com was b20crxvtec, and the only part of that name hes ever owned was the crx part, no vtec, and no b20. then he claimed to have an h22 in it, but that he blew the engine in 3 days, so now hes running a b18b. first of all chris, the cutting you would have had to do to the body of that crx would be so intense that i dont think you could just yank the "h22" you had in it out and slap a b18 in it. theres no doubt that get the h22 in, you would have had to cut important stock stuff out to make it fit. so quit lying on all these websites in an attempt to look cool.
