gutting the cats???

I drive a 93' base. I really want to open up the exhaust for as little cash as possible. Seeing as I have none, and that's the reason I got a base for 5g instead of a VR-4 I need cheap ways to improve the performance (for now...). I was wondering how I would go about gutting the precats and/or the cat. And I would like to know if this would be diffucult or relatively easy. Thanks :)

Are there pre-cats on a NA 3000GT? I thought those were there on the turbo models only.

In any case, take the cat off, and use some tin snips and cut out as much of the honeycombed metal as you can. You can stand it on end and use a soft steel rod (copper) and hammer to punch out as much of the rest as you can.

Put it back on and it'll look like a normal cat, but it will not pass emissions testing if you have it in your state.

Doesnt removing the cat on an N/A reduce the backpresure too much? I would think you would lose torque. Please correct me if im wrong.

You’re right, torque is sacrificed for the HP gains. So launching will be a bit slower, but the top end can be a bit higher.
