Interior Painting

I'm thinking about giving my car a customized interior. I want to do it myself but don't know what kind of paint to use or what supplies i would need. I'm thinking about painting my leather seats and paint the dash some and door panels. Should i by some kind of special spary paint or should i get myself an air brush? what would get the job done? What kind of paint should i use? What equipment is required? Any preparation? Special ways to clean? What's primer?

try to search for some aerosol primer, aerosol paint, and some aerosol clear protectant. it gives a lil glossy look. its best for the interior paint, i did it myself in white, i must say it looks great, but u gotta take the dash off first.
when you spray it, keep a certain distance and give about 3-4 coats each, let it dry a little between each coat. that'll be it, I painted the leather too.

hey thanks for the reply and the tips. What do you think about air brushing? Would it be better than the aerosol stuff?

get rid of all the oils and dirt on the stuff, use scotch bright to get rid of it

Check out the G2 vinyl dye sprays. I've heard many good things about this. It's not a paint, but a dye, so its absorbed by the vinyl, and won't chip off, crack, or rub off like a paint might.

The only thing he doesn't really clarify that I think should be is the paint to use.

When painting the vinyl parts of the car (mainly dash) you will need to get Duplicolor Vinyl and Fabric Spray.

When painting hard plastic pieces you will need to use the Krylon Fusion. If you use Krylon Fusion on the vinyl stuff it will always be stick and peel off.

what does primer do when your painting?

I was also curious as to how the paint would handle being constantly brushed up on after painting the seats. How do you prevent it from pealing, or just rubbing off?

if you have a thick clear coat (like mine) then there shouldn't be mouch wear (mines been in for almost 6 months and no signs of wear)
