Damn thief's, very long rant!

Why the F do people have to steal shit they want, instead of working their ass off like most of us diehard enthusiasts do to buy it legally??? OK here's the deal. Last night at work my car got broken into around midnight. Some stupid punks decided they would smash my drivers side window, then reach in, rip my tachometer off the dash and steal stereo faceplate. I mean WTF, are people that cheap lately! I'm heated, I mean I'm literally steaming!
Apparently the "Clean Sweep" guy who cleans the parking lot at night heard a loud smash from across the lot, he looked in that direction and sees a Hispanic male bent over my door, then immediately hops back in his buddies red Chevy Blazer and peels out of the parking lot.
That really doesn't leave me with a lot of information to work with for the cops, seeing how no plate number was seen. So after the police report was made out, I was able to review the security tapes of inside and outside the grocery store where I work with the store detective. We were able to piece together what happened. Come to find out, there was 3 individuals involved, not sure on which one did the deep, but their all guilty by association in my book. Now heres where the fools messed up. One of them was known by the store cashier, who gave me his name and address. Another one paid for his order with a debit card, which allowed us to look up his account number for cross reference of identification.
So this morning after my shift ends, I take a drive by this dudes house, which is no more then a mile from where I work (in my other car of course) and see a red Chevy blazer, just like on the surveillance video. I grab his plate number and head to the police dept. Now here's where the law takes its time. They say they need to see the video before they can use my information that I have gathered on my own investigations. I really hate playing the waiting game, but at least my insurance company is being corporative. They are even sending someone over right now to repair my window.
Sorry for the long rant, but I just needed to get this off my chest.

My wife is a lawyer, before you go and get even. Let me know what happens. If they screw up(The Cops), I will talk to the wife about your situation.

I'd break open their window, steal the steering wheel, or hell, maybe a wheel itself, and hold it ransom for a clear trade...
Having had my car broken into before as well, I feel for ya. I hate stupid people...

Worst case scenario.
The cops do not help you. You take them to small claims court. If you win, or they do not show up to court, you can put a lien on the truck.
Either way, make those pricks pay.
But, if you retaliate, and they can pin it on you, the cops will more than likely come after you for being a Vigilanty. So, be careful.
It also depends on what state you are in, but for the most part that is it in a nut shell.
I too have had my car busted in, but the cops actually caught them in the act. Those cops were very good.

I'm sorry about your car. Always hate to hear something like that happen. Props to you for not busting or shooting their windows out. I probably would have, but then again I live out in the country where I wouldn't get caught. Hope the police work effieciently for you.

ouch, thats really not cool man, i mean really, they obvisosly were just doin it for kicks because its not like your gonna get rich off stealing a face plate, brakeing a tach, and smashing a window.
personily, i like to keep the law out of my afairs as much as possible, so i would mostlikely just just pay the red blazer a visit. best of luck to ya

I'm glad to hear that you didn't act out in revenge. That would have put you in a really bad position and it wouldn't have compensated you financially. It probably would have made things worse and ended up costing you more money. Just be patient and be glad that you found the ass holes.

Yeah sorry to here that man. At least your insurance is going to take care of you. I hope the cops put the screws to those ass holes. Its too bad they catch us doing 10 miles over the limit but they never catch people breaking in and taking what you work hard to get.

Good detective work and I wish you the best. Glad to hear you didn't stoop to their level and retaliate

That really blows! At least you have some evidence to work with. So many people I know have had their car stereos ripped off, I'm scared to put anything decent in my car (I will anyway, though). At least they didn't steal your car...
Goodluck!

wtf is anyone going to do with a broken tach and the face plate to a radio with out the radio?
HiFlow5 0

Well, I don't think the tach was broken, they ripped it right out of my dash where it was mounted, and took it. I'm thinking they took the face plate just as a dig.
I'm still waiting to hear from the police, but I'm absolutely pressing charges as soon as things get sorted out. On a plus side, I did have the window fixed yesterday. The insurance company actually sent out a truck in under 2 hours of me calling to fix the window in my own driveway. I was impressed! Looks like this is just a sign to park my baby for winter and start preparing for spring time mods.
