When I turn hard left, for example, turning into a parking stall, I can hear a huge CLUNK about midway through the turn, coming from somewhere in the front end. Does anyone know what this could possibly be?
It's a 92 2.2l 2dr Cavalier.
Thanks

That very well could be the sway bar. I am not sure if your car even has one, but if it does, next time you get a chance, put the front end on jacks, and see if you can move the sway bar. If there is alot of play in it, that could cause a clunk. I'm assuming you've eliminated things like half shafts, etc. Just take a look under there, and check for loose stuff. It's really not too complicated. Good luck

Yes the car has a sway bar, and I dont think the sway bar is the problem. it could lay just behind your wheel, Possibably a sticking Brake caliper letting go, or i would lay my money on a bad CV axel. The joints go bad after a period of time and will clunk, i would start to look there. check the rubber boots on both sides of both axels to make sure they are not cracked and split open. If they are chances are that the axel joint is already to far gone to fix if your clunking. axels run about 60$ each at any autozone or advanced auto. if you cant check it yourself take it in have soemone drive it.

I just had the same noise happen after hitting an extra large pothole extra fast .... it was the sway bar links ... $30 part 1 hr labour ....

Could also be your upper strut mounts. If they are old, they may slip when you turn the front wheels and cause the strut to slip and pop. It sounds like a bushing at least, put the front up on jacks and have a look. check www.j-body.org for more help.. there is a crazy suspension forum there. a must know site for any J owner.

Well I don't think it is the CV joints, they make a Clicking Rattle Noise when turning and accelerating. It might be Ball koints or Tie-rod ends (inner or outer)

The easiest way to test the CVs is to find an empty parking lot. Put the car in reverse. Crank the steering wheel fully in one direction and back up a bit listening for the 'click, pop'. The crank the wheel fully the other direction , again listening for the noises. If it is a smoth reverse, the CVs are OK.
