Cam Upgrade?

Does anyone have any knowledge or experience for a cam upgrade for my 1994 454 cid boat anchor? My Burb has 40k miles on it and is dead stock except for a Gale Banks Power Pack (mainifolds, muffler and complete gargantuan tail pipe). The Banks system greatly improved performance but I think that the newer 350 cid Vortec MPI's out pull mine with a medium weight boat in tow( not to mention the horrid gas mileage)

Hopefully a cam upgrade will be beneficial for both power and mileage.
I don't want to get into other major engine mods.

Thanks

Ask the company to put you in touch with someone near you who bought one. Have you been down to this level in an engine before? It's a lot of work. Can you live without your truck until you put it all back together again?

A great idea to ask for a reference JF, but who do you mean by "company"? I just redid the cylinder heads in my SBF motor. Yes on experienc. My Burb is a recreational vehicle, am more concerned about the time to remove all the front of the vehicle than I am about motor components. However if I can determine sufficient improvement with a new cam, I'll tackle the project.

I'm just envious I don't have the time to do such. Still dreaming of having my own machine shop....

You may try and call Scoggins-Dickey Chevrolet in Lubbock, TX. They have been a great help in suggesting and selling aftermarket cams. They sold me one for my '97 5.7 Vortec. :) david
