Hi guys

Im in the uk and i have a Ford Escort 1.6 LX up until the other day it ran very well... but then other day my car seemed to be stuttering/jerking ...when this first happened the engine would stay idling between 1000 - 1500 rpm when at traffic lights, but now if i stop at all and take my foot off the accelerator pedal it just stalls the engine, but when i put my foot down the engine runs but stutters/jumps it feels like the petrol is running out (that sort of feeling) but the tank is full so it cant be the petrol if you could make any suggestions id appreciate it

Thanks Tommy

I have a 2.0L that does the same thing, but only when its cold, or when the air is cold until the car warms up a bit. Ive replaced plugs, plug leads, checked the choke and choke linkages but hasnt made too much difference.
Im thinking its either jets in the carbi, or an electrical thing like points or coil or something...

I may have found a resolve for us both,
sounds like it was a similar issue:

It seems like it may be the mixture
and carby settings with the choke.
Seems like the choke is forcing in
too much fuel when its cold and flooding
the engine causing the 'missing' and
backfiring, and giving you that stuttering
and jerking thing.

Exactly the same as mine.

Is it a Webber carby?

Is the car reading it is running hot collant temp sensor could be going bad here in the usa if it goes bad it will no let the car run right and it back the fuel off till the car quits

Timing was way out on my car and caused all sorts of missing and stuttering.

We adjusted the timing, now no issues, runs great.

Might be worth a look. Cheers.
