1999 Grand Am Blower/Resistor Location

Hi -

I need to change the blower resistor on my '99 Grand Am SE due to the 1 and 2 fan speed issue. The blower is on the passenger side I believe, but that is the extent of my knowledge. Can anyone give me a more detailed picture of how to change the resistor? I am pretty technical...

Under The Pass. Kick Panel By The Blower Motor. It Has 3 5.5 Mil Bolts Which Are Brass.it Can Be Hard To Get Out Because Of
The Back Bolts All You Have To Do Is Loosen The Bolt Against
The Firewall The Holes Are Slotted.

I changed the resistor and all fan speeds work...

Hi, Can someone fill me in on this blower situation with the 99 grand ams?
I have a 99 Grand am SE and I am currently experiencing a problem with this. At first, at speed one and 2 the blower was not working, but at 3, 4 and 5 it was fine. Just yesterday, it completely did not work for a bit at speed 3 4 or 5 and had a hard time kicking in. But today the whole thing went kaput, altogether. No heat blowing at all...Please help, it gets super cold here in Canada.
I want to know what the problem is because I don't want to get ripped off when bringing it in to the repair shop.

I would also like to know a simple way to cure this problem , I am currently expiriencing the same thing. Could it be a relay switch?

It sounds to me like you have a fan, resistor, or relay issue. The fact that the 1 and 2 speeds stopped beforehand signals the resistor to me, but I can't give you a firm answer. One way to tell would be to remove the resistor to check it. When I replaced mine, it was obviously bad (melted and corroded). If I was in your situation, that is probably what I would do.

Well, I brought my car in to the GM dealership to have them put a new resistor in...so now I am flat broke! They charged me a total of 350$Cdn. It was the resistor($30), plus the blower motor kit($145), plus labour(1hour) and taxes! Plus--there was some other $10kit that was causing "water intrusion" into the motor that they ordered. Aparently, water seeped in, froze and the motor broke(I didn't get this other item repaired/replaced yet bcuz I don't have the $$ right now--it would've been another $100 to put that thing in) ...I guess I just have to stay out of the rain for the next week or so...or maybe become a mechanic?
so all of these pluses put me in the negative! bye bye to my Christmas $$... :(
