what you are talking about is called a frankenstein. there are different kinds of these the one you mentioned is a ls/vtec, as for companies that make vtec heads i dont know of any but i dont know half as much as some of the regulars on this forum but unfortunately they will only tell you that your stupid because you asked that question. to learn more just do a search or ask me ill help you all i can.

:screwy: Well, I agree with the other members...please do some research before you post. Although, I am sitting here procrastinating from homework so I think I'll try to answer to the best of my current ability.
VTEC heads on a B18B = LS/VTEC (whoa, huh?). A B18B has 140hp/130tq. With a VTEC head, your LS/VTEC should have 175-195hp depending on the set up. I would reccomend the B16 head because of its cost and simply because it flows better..allows more air - CFM. The GSR head doesn't flow as well because it doesn't allow as much air as a B16 head does. The ITR head is the same as the B16 head, only it's mildly ported by Honda themselves. I hope you know that in order to do LS/VTEC, a head isn't gonna be it for you, not only will you need a VTEC head, you'll need to relocate the dowel pins, plug the oil supply hole which is included in an oil line kit that is specifically for LS/B20/VTEC conversions..[$75-125.]
As far as the question in regards to the companies making "the best" heads...maybe you're thinking about something like JUN..they don't "make" heads, they just do the machine work/install internals.
Hope that helps..it's comin from a girl so I may be a lil sketchy..lol

People say the B16 heads flow better than GSR heads but it isn't true.

From alaniz, building the fastest all motor hondas anywhere. The difference of a few CFM here and there can easily be atributed to casting differences.

also i would go with a b18a, bottom end, because it is open deck, and b18b is closed deck, just incase you want to turbo down the road!!!!!!!!!!!!

WFT...No Honda has a closed deck sherlock...and if the deck was closed...that would be better, it would create a stronger block around the cylinder chamber, so it wouldn't flex and crack under high boost...this is why you re-sleeve the deck, since the open deck honda desgin is weak....IF it had a close deck, it would be much more turbo friendly. BTW, the 92+ B18A1 is very similer to the B18B1, basically only 2 HP off. Now the 90-91 B18A1 isn't close. But no Honda has a "closed deck." I know plently of Nissan engines that come with boost have closed decks, but no hondas do. Even then, a closed deck is more turbo-friendly than an open deck, so what you said makes no sense on any level.

You're from Southern Oregon, right? I'm from Portland. Do you ever come to PDX?
And your post wasn't far off. I am not calling boosted331 a lier but as far as I have seen numbers wise, you were right. The B16A head flows 5.25% better. I see his chart shows different, but I have seen charts showing what that, so take what you will. I know me and several others have had this disscussion with him before about the flow of the heads. Either way, the B16A has a bigger combustion chamber over the GSR, 42.7cc to 41.6cc, which is one of the reasons it is the prefered head.

Hey good job, its so great to know that girls arent just getting paid by, looking pretty, im glad to hear that you , know TECH talk, the import casting scene is starving for import females, with beauty also, there is a show that comes on speed vision called, Import tuners, in a recent 5 sec. interview in louisiana, one of the casting guides, asked if their were any females around this place that had any knowlege of imports, sadly to say the answer was NO, I asked Y and he said, SON the import scene is starving for knowlegeable import tunetts, So keep up the good work, and keep acurate info in that lil head of yours, lots of peeps on this site know their stuff, this is a great site, to sharpen your pencil,,,, sorry for running off the subject!!!!!!!!!!!!

Look dippo..i have an LS too...A 97 B18B1 sitting in my car in the gargage...had it in there forever. I know the LS motor....NO HONDA MOTOR WAS A TRUELY CLOSED DECK........like you find the boosted Nissan's, etc. I don't give a shit what you think you saw...the B18B1 does not come from the factory with a closed deck....don't think so? Go start a thread and ask.
Also, a block guard really isn't worth much on a boosted app. It's a cheap fix, and really not a whole lot better. Lot's of engine builders call them worthless. You want to build up the short block? Re-sleeve it. Use AEBS or Darton Sleeves. They are a true wet-sleeve desgin, close off the top of the deck, but leave the water0jackets around the cyliders for cooling....and...they can handle upwards of 55psi....trust me...you wanna boost that LS much past 12psi (which you better know your shit to do, it's gotta be in prefect tune), then your gonna wanna change the rods, pistons..etc. You want high boost....re-sleeve. The LS does have a stronger block than other B-series motors, but it is not a "closed deck"...per say...sorry to burst your bubble.

Look, I am not saying your LS doesn't possess a "closed deck." I am saying they don't come with a closed deck design. NO HONDA COMES THAT WAY. Maybe the pervious owner of the LS before is was swapped had a block gaurd installed and machined in...who knows...but I know for a fact Honda's don't come with a closed deck design..which is one of the reasons a lot of people say "don't boost a honda, they weren't designed for it." If you read my posts throughout my time here, you know I am not one of those ppl. But still, Honda's don't come facotry with a Closed Deck. If you have an LS that has one, it was done after the fact before you bought it.

dont worry about black89crxls, hes another one of those people who talk about things that they have read or heard from someone else, only he screws it all up when he tries to repeat it.
for instance, his name on www.sportsnimports.com was b20crxvtec, and hes never had a b20 OR vtec in his crx, and the only reason i believe that he has a crx is because i saw it once. he claimed lots of things, but nothing ever came true, which is bad considering sportsnimports is a louisiana based site and everyone on there lives in the state or nearby and most of them have met in person more than once. its not a good place to get away with lying. then he claimed to have an h22, but after three days of driving his CRX with it, he hydrolocked the engine and just pulled it out and put a b18b in it. dont even get me started on the horrors of going back to basically stock mounts after the cut job required for an h22.
theres a lot more involved with this guy, but im getting tired of exposing him in every thread i see hes posted in, so im going to quit now.

Jeuses man, learn to red...go pick someone else to lie to. You are not gonna bull shit one on me....
NO HONDA CAME WITH A CLOSED DECK...PERIOD.....NONE...NADA...NOT AN H22, NOTHING...
The H22 has a conisderably weaker block than an LS, and it does not come with a closed deck....again, no Honda does. An H22 can't be pushed much past 7psi, maybe 8 max....on a stock block, and it's well kow to have a weeker block...the sleeves are thinner and will crack under much boost. I have seen the inside of plenty of H22's. Again, jesus, just quite with the lying...you're a frickin idiot...and I don't go off calling people on here that, so feel special.

Sorry I haven't posted in a while, my interent connection died...I drive a 92 Civic. You let someone borrow your wheels? Hope you get em back soon, and in good condition. I am guessing you have different wheels on your car. Yea, it rains waaayyy too much here in oregon, lol. Makes you not really wanna go driving, you know? Saturday was the worst, in regards to rain, around 1.55" just on saturday alone.

I have a B16 Head that I am selling for $450+shipping. It's just the head valve cover, valve train, cams, head bolts, vtec solenoid. The head has only 30k on it. Let me me know if you are interested.

If you want a step-by step instruction with pics on how it's done (it's good for an idea of what's involved), check out the issue of Honda Tuning from May 2003 I believe, I'll check on the date and let you know the issue/pages. Then you just won't have to read it, but can see it as well....and no...you don't just throw the head on and call it good...I'd go more in-depth, but am not at home and have to get going. I am sure someone else will take this though...if not, next time I am on with more time I'll try and explain it for you.

2. DONT revive old threads to say something thats is fucking pointless you retard noob. :banghead:
Thank you. Now black89crxLs, that is simple to understand. Let me state this as clear as I can. In the History of the Honda Motor Corp., no production honda motor has EVER come with a closed deck....EVER...IN THE HISTORY OF HONDA MOTOR CORP...NONE. Is that clear? So none of us care what you have to say about this, what you think about this, or what you think you may have seen. Fact is Fact, and what you perceive as truth and believe doesn't make it true. The simple fact is, NO HONDA EVER CAME WITH A CLOSED DECK. Now we have been telling you this for somewhere around 35-40 days. You are not this dense. No one is that dense. If you are a troll, pick somewhere else to go. Such games are not apperacted here at AF and are not taken to kindly by members.
With that said, will a mod please lock this thread. It is seriously off topic and out-dated.

Honda Tuning Magazine: H22 Swap Part 1 (http://www.hondatuningmagazine.com/tech/0211hon_swap/)
... The stock H22 crankshaft is a sturdy, forged, counterweighted piece ... H block would
at first seem like a good choice for turbocharging because of its closed deck. ...

You can close the deck of ANY motor by resleeving it, but the deck is NOT CLOSED. JUst drop it, this is pointless. You This is getting very irratating and pointless to argue with you. I don't care what "net pics" you show me. The H22 has thinner cylinder walls, and can't handle much past 8psi. Ask any real Honda Engine tuner, and if they even have a smigion of knowlegde, they'll tell you the same. And it's commenly know, NO HONDA MOTOR CAME WITH A CLOSED DECK. Now stop all this argeuing please.
BTW, first off, try and compact things. There is no need to start a new post for every new paragraph you type. There is no need to "quote me" in one post, respond and add web addys in a second, and then one more web addy in a 3rd. DO it all in one post and if you need to add something you forgot to say when you are finished, or something, then use the edit post feature...thank you.
