I think it is H20C but I don't remember where I got that from. Just wondering so that I could maybe find parts buy the engine code and not the car itself. Could someone correct me if I'm wrong? Thanks, Mike

The only thing I found in my Suzuki papers is the body code.
For a 2.0 liters Vitara it would be sq420.
I'm gonna try and check with my friend at the Suzuki dealership on monday.

The engine code is j20 for the 2.0l engine and for a v6 2.5 it's h25,I just checked with my friend at the dealership.

No problem, but if you want a big jump in horsepower, you could go hybrid.Just like the Honda boys do,and put a Grand Vitara or even Xl-7 engine in your Tracker.Think about it,155 to 190 hp plus torque to spare in a lightweight vehicule would be fun, maybe even scary.
Second option would be a custom turbo kit of some kind and maybe a ported head, with a bigger throttle body,or something.
None of these options would be cheap, but they would result in greatly improved hp number.
Also, the Esteem 1.8 engine is basicaly the same thing with less displacement,so if anything fits that one,it should fit yours.

I thought about the hybred thing before but my car is almost brand new and I don't have enough money to pay for a new engine and all thats needed. And I personally think the 155hp from a V6 is kinda low.
The Esteem's 1.8 is basically the same?? Cool thanks that might help alot . I'm gonna check up on that one.
Hey since us two are the only ones on this post I got a Question? Well actually it's an idea. Whats your opinon?
I want to take an older 2wd Tracker/Sidekick and put the drop kit, sway bars, etc... that Calmini has on it, then get a bodykit and swap in a Honda S2000 engine(245hp four cyl). I think it would be one bad little truck. How about you?

I saw your tread about the s2000 thing in your other tread where you got flamed.
It's not that bad of an idea,it would take a boatload of cash to do,enve more if you want to stay 4wd(for extra traction at stoplights).
Everything is possible, you just have to have the time and fabrication skills or a lot of money.
One time, I even saw a drag Samourai with a turbo Rx7 engine.
Everything that can be done to an 1.8 can be done to a 2.0 engine,I think only the cams are different.

That guy is crazy, I like him.
The only thing I don't like is his choice of tires, they're way too small,it's gonna rev real high on the highway and spin like a bitch at spotlight. At least he has a locker in the rear.

What you mean?
It doesn't really matters, you could custom fab or fit a cold air intake or even easier a short ram to your truck.
You could have an exhaust custom made.
Sure almost everything will have to be custom made, but that's why they make universal stuff, for those who take the least traveled road.
Keep in there, and some stuff you can do yourself,it ain't that hard and you learn your car alot.Don't give up.;)

I thought about the engine swap and was talking to some guys at work.
I asked if they thought 170hp/178tq was good from a 2.7 V6. They thought about it and said it isnt bad at all nowadays. Then one guy said he knows a guy that is selling a Chevy 3.1 engine for pretty cheap. But I don't think I want that one anyways.
Do you know or have someone to ask some questions?
1. Will my 2.0 5sp trans fit on the 2.7 V6?
2. Do you know the engine code for the 2.7(XL-7 Motor)
Thanks, Mike

Depends of the years.

I figured it out. Sort of (thanks to you)
2001 was the first year they made the XL7 and it had 170hp
2002 was made with the same engine just bored out a little more 180hp
So I really want the '02 engine
Do you know what they mean when they say it has a 5sp w/overdrive?

The first 4 gears are underdrive or direct and the 5th is overdrive.

I can answer quite a bit of your ? as I worked at a Suzukimdealership before.
1.I don't think it would work. And the v6 transmission is heavy duty compared to the 4cyl one.
2.The engine code is h27 and it's the same base as the 2.5 or h25 only with bigger displacement.

OK so i guess that I would have to buy the engine and trans.
Do you know how much a engine and trans might cost either new or from a junkyard?

You'd need engine tranny t-case with the wiring harness and computer, plus at least the front part of the exhaust system and probably drveshaft(if they're not the same lenght).
As for a price,it would be costly as hell, might wanna check to see if you can find a totaled truck that was rear ended or that was sideswiped so you would have a complete donor for everything.
But even then,it would cost major bucks and would be very time consuming.
