Automatic LS1 VS. Manual LS1 1/4 mile

Ok, i know this probably was already posted, but when i bought my 99 formula, my mom bought one too. She thinks her car outruns mine in a 1/4 mile, but hers is a six speed, mine is an automatic. I think personally, automatics are faster in the LS1 models. What does everyone else think? or if you know the stats in a 1/4 mile against the 2........................................

It would depend on a number of factors, if it was your mom driving you would prolly beet her just because of her reaction time in between gears and you not having to worry about that. But Assuming you had someone driving that was perfect in between gears you would probably lose for two reasons. 1. The 6 speed has a lil higher gear ratio. 2. there is not as much hp lost in the 6 speed as in the auto. where u lose more hp at the torque converter.

Man lots of factors in seeing which is faster. I believe top end the manual is only like 2 mph faster.
I might be wrong but I recall reading that somewhere cant remember.

Anyway, depends on how you drive the auto, do you just put in drive and go or do you shift it yourself?

auto can be made to go faster than a manual.
With shift kits and converts ets.

As you know with a stick you can hold out the rpm's longer.

Thing about an auto is your time is more consistant than a manual. hope this helps a bit.

and just for your info. with the LT1 and LS1 it is better to leave it in drive and go because it shifts at redline anyway or right before. And with a programmer you can set the shift point to whatever you want.

If you put down huge numbers, an automatic will be more consistent, and tend to be faster. If you're bone stock, or close to it, a manual has no problem beating an automatic. All depends on the drivers...

Not on a 99' Corvette with an LS1.... So I bet a T/A wont either. Its all GM..

Here are some facts..

My Auto Ws6 puled a 320.1 rwhp.. now if i race a 318 to 325 rwhp stick i will win.. no question and this was stock

2 in 02 while Evan smith was struggling to keep the SS with a .45 deficite average under the 03 Cobra.. across town .. the tested a 02 Ws6 loaded.. AUTON+MATIC it consistantly ran 13.12.. (pontia performance magazine))

you can't out shift the computer a 3.42.. are not gonna have you as the gears 1-3 on the Auto's are very good
and i dropped .75 with a stall trango. Nittos and gears.. try doing that with a M6

their was a test .. and overall the Auto beats the 6 speeds 70 % of the time
Remember all you 6 speed driver one mistake a bit too much spin and its over. or you cant get it in gear.; you lose

Auto's rule.. and you can finger your woman while you race
yes do leave it in drive unless its a street race and your only be going to 90 or so

i dread the 6 speed that rolls with the same hp as me.. when i have the auto, ,TC, gears and transgo..to beat me he'll need 80+ rwhp more ( ie stall /Tc + tansgo+ gears + Nittos + .75 on my car the equivalent to 80 rwhp on a six speed

Ok, well you cant tell me it doesnt because I have a 97 TA and it does... So if the Vette your talking about doesnt then I dont know why it doesnt. But, fact of the matter is, yes, my TA does shift on its own right before the redline every time perfectly. Read, SONIC1050fps, reply, he says the same thing...

So are you saying it does hit redline or not?

Have you ever tried running out first gear in "1" - I've heard some of my mechanic buddies say you should be able to get into the red doing that. I remember one buddy telling me there is something underneath the car (can't remember if its a sensor or what?) that can be unplugged to let it rev higher in "1" (and I know it has nothing to do with a computer tweak). First thing this guy did when he saw my car was crawl underneath it to check!?! (although my PCM had already been tweaked at another dealership). Thats another thing, you can have your friendly neighbourhood GM Goodwrench boys reprogram your redline with their neat little $5000 hand-held diagnostic computers.

But I'll look into that wire/sensor harness thing...
