2003 Taurus gas cap light

My gas cap light keeps going off on the dash board, I checked the owners manual and it said to check the gas cap I did that and found nothing wrong. I reset the light by disconnecting the battery bat about a week latter it goes of again. Does anyone know what else could be wrong.

Does it go "off" or are you saying it comes on? I had fumes out of mine and I simply bought a new cap, solved the problem. willyum :rolleyes:

I'd check with the dealer that might be covered under the emissions warranty. Also some cars will turn on the check engine light whenever you take it off while the car is running.
