89 regal check engine light on

A friend called me last nite to ask what was wrong with his 89 regal 98 V6. The check engine light came on & 15 miles later it started to run very rough & he was able to get home, but now it won't start. I told him probably a sensor, but I don't know GM products very well. How can you check the stored Error codes in the computer? I wanted to have a little ammo before I went to help him solve his problem.

Thanks in advance!

Rick

You can always get a GM code reader to see what the problem is. Any automotive store can order one for you. I don't know how well the ones Walmart has are but they should give you a general idea where the problem is originating from. Depending on the condition of the car, it could be electrical and/or mechanical. Hope this if some help to you.

A Faulty sensor won't keep your engine from starting.
there are only 3 things that can do that.
1. no compression
2. no air/fuel
3. no spark.
tell him to check for these things.
