Clutch problem 98 exp sp

I am not sure if my clutch is going bad or not. Often times the pressure in the pedal is really low. When this happens and I am stopped and I start to go there is a metal on metal sound but not really a grinding sound. It doesn't happen all of the time and when it does it's only in first gear. Then other times I have pressure and now awful sound! Not too sure what to do. Any help or ideas would be great. Thanks
