carrrnuttt VS EC0T3C

carrrnuttt
11-30-2003, 10:40 PM
Here's the basic specs of the contenders:

EC0T3C:
2003 Chevy Cavalier
2.2-liter Ecotec I-4
140 hp @ 5600 rpm
150 ft-lb @ 4000 rpm
curb-weight = 2617 lbs
mods = none
mileage = approx: 2500 miles

carrrnuttt:
1992 Nissan Sentra SE-R
2.0-liter SR20DE I-4
140 hp @ 6400 rpm
132 ft-lb @ 4800 rpm
curb-weight = 2414 lbs
mods = generic cone air-filter; timing advance
mileage = approx: 125000 miles

This race has been long in the brewing, as we all know that ECOT3C has been talking Cavaliers up and down all over the board, and he has asked me for a race for a while now.

We finally decided to take some time to meet-up and take whatever runs we can get. We decided he'd follow me until we found an open red light.

First run: Coming around the street we met up on, he follows me. I had a feeling he'd jump on it. As soon as I saw his headlights pop-up, I jumped on it (still in second). I was in the far-right lane, and since there was a car in the middle of the three-laner, he was in the far-left lane. Don't know how close he was, but I know he was behind me.

Second run: This is the one I would consider the "legit" race. After our first run, we slowed-down, as we saw the light ahead of us about to turn red.

I brought my RPMs up to about 2000, as I heard his engine go up in revs also. Light turns, and I launch lightly, with only some slight clutch slipping, in order to preserve my deteriorating clutch.

I jumped him about a car from the launch, and by the time I topped second-gear, I was about two/three cars ahead. Tim said that he missed third, so I won't mention what came after second...http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/images/smilies/evil_lol.gif

We also did another impromptu rolling run, where I managed to keep him at bay behind me again, although I won't count it.

We pulled-up to a car-wash afterwards, and he told me a couple of things:

1) He was shifting too early
2) If I was "stock", we would've been even
3) His car's still in the break-in period
4) He's new to stick-shifting

This is why I included the cars' respective mileages in the specs list. I did inform Tim that my car isn't that much faster than when it didn't have the two "mods" I have done, especially since it needs a tune-up, and a new clutch, among other things...;).

Anyhow, we're talking about a freeway run next, as he says his third and fourth are his strongest gears. He wants to run from 55MPH to his 108MPH governor. What do you guys think?

Cool runs, Tim. Till next time...http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/images/smilies/smile.gif

and his newness to a standard is making him shift early because of his break in period!

Upon review of GTStang's sig, I see nothing about mini Ls1's. So I assume that they're fair game and can certainly go down.

The correct term would be the LS.5 since they are half of an LS1 and you are corect....they can never lose....

so upon further analysis its clear that ECOT3C was not trying

It's obvious he didn't put it into Race mode.

If he had... he would of beaten that little Sentra... and its little dog tooo! :evillol:

And on that note. Yoooo hoooo carrrnuttt, Ive got a suprise for your light weight powerd nissan sleeper. Hehe naw, but I did happen to get my 14b turbo in running at 16 psi. I think we might have to go at it and see what this 3700 lb of a convertible can do. And about that race. I knew how it would end anyway. Told him not to race you. By the way were you guys racing downwind? Heh you didnt tell him did you? Carrrnuttt racing downwind is like adding a small turbo to his car. It adds about 20 hp to the wheels his car is so light. Anyway you gotta look at the new peice. Car actually picks up pretty nasty even with the 18's. Peace and add another one to carrrnuttts kills.

Well ecot3c I dont think we should race all side by side or something crazy on the street. I do think we all should head to the track (speedworld( and get afew runs in. That will tell us alittle more like 60 fts, react time, et's, mph, etc. That also will tell whos good at what by the time slip. Your race wasent that bad and I think with afew minor adjustments on your part might make the next race alittle closer. Dont feed into what others flame you about or say. Just shut them up with a great 1/4 mile slip or post the next thread "ECOT3C kills CARRRNUTTT"( sorry arcie).

LOL.

When did I get "man to beat" title in AZ? As I recall, 90redgt beat me a couple of times during our runs...;)

Anyhow. I'll try to get with you next weekend Armando. I wanna see how that new turbo is holding-up for you.

Don't worry, I'll still run ya. I'm not afraid to lose. I run for fun, and sometimes losing is fun too...and when you have a sleeper POS like mine, losing doesn't nearly hurt as much as say...when you have a turbo-car that lost to sleeper POS...http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/images/smilies/evil_lol.gif

I just had a go with my friend and his 2003 Cavi.
My Car:
2001 Ford ZX2
4 cylinder DOHC Z-Tec engine w/ Variable valve timing
1/4=15.5
0-60=???
Mods=Speed Governor disabled, Air resonators removed (What can I say I have no money)

n e ways, we started from a roll of about 30MPH and we launched at the same exact time, he had me by a quarter of a car length but when the Z-tec kicked in at about 4000 RPM, he was toast, we finnished and I was at least 1 1/2 car lengths ahead. Cavi's are so much fun to race against. good kill though man, sounded like fun.

1) He was shifting too early
2) If I was "stock", we would've been even
3) His car's still in the break-in period
4) He's new to stick-shifting

1. That is part of racing, work on it, don't use it as an excuse.
2. You are stock minus the timing advance.
3. Then what the hell is he doing racing it?
4. Once again, that's part of racing. Practice, don't use it as an excuse.

Good kills as usual man. :bigthumb:

Dude.. do you know anything??? Skip the stickers and Type R badge(belong on Honda's.. DUHH) and go straight to the two big bottles of NAWWWWZZZZZZ(be careful, don't blow yourself up) and some koni adjustables(reduces weight and helps your launch).

You should get him for sure with that. Remember to leave the top down for extra aerodyanmics!!!!!

I think I got it..! I took off my top and de bodyed my car. All I am now is rails and my engine. I gave my rims away and put on 2 drag slicks for the front and 2 donuts for the back. Now that my car weights about 2000 lbs Im sure to have the lead untill 2nd gear or so. I still dont know how long I can keep the lead. Hopefully I can beat him in first gear then shut down. Then tell him how slow his car is. Ill be the ultimate street racer. Then all the girls will like me. wherever I go ill be famous. My car will stand out in every car show. And no one will ever want to race me again. Thell see my car and run. Everyone will start driving a framed/topless/doughnut using eclipse. I will start my own car club that will soon be a nation of just frame cars. I will have a throne.... etc etc etc...
