5spd max vs auto max vs '00 civic si

My friend who drives a 2000 civic si w/ headers, intake, and exhaust says he beat a 4th gen. auto max by a half car length. I have a 5 speed 4th gen. How much quicker are 5 speeds than automatic maximas? And has anybody who has a 5spd raced an automatic maxima or an Si?

They're at least .5 of a second faster to 60, maybe a little more.
I've seen the infamous highway video of a 5-speed Max with just intake,UDP,and exhaust out-running an SI with headers,exhaust,intake, and maybe something else.

Your 5-speed should be able to take him, but with him having mods and I assume you don't, it'll be close.

auto civics are dogs, but nissan auto trannies suck. a 5speed max will take both other cars. i beat a typeR integra in my 95 5 speed by about a car, maybe less, with just intake and exhaust. the teg was bone stock.

if he's auto, he's toast

Having raced both at different times I can tell you this, there's no way in hell a Civic with anything other than boost (ie N2O, Turbo/SC) can beat any 5th Gen Max auto or stick.

A 5 spd Max is slightly quicker than the auto but it isn't overwhelmingly faster, if the 5spd driver is sleeping or has too much wheelspin he will get toasted by the auto.

I've had 5 races against a stick Max and I was owned 3 out of the 5 times, the first time he spun his tires too much, the second time I won was the first race because he took me for granted assuming that I was was much slower than him and didn't give it his all.

When he did get me in the other 3 races he owned me by half a car length each time.

I'd definitely take a stick if you plan on racing, although I haven't met a Civic yet that was able to take me.
So if the Civic can't beat an Auto Max, imagine what a stick will do to him.

The first gear the Civic has a pretty fast take off but by second gear (Autos only) the Max just roast him badly.

The 00' Civic Si is not available with an auto transmission.

I have a 4th gen 5spd max with no performance mods but a muffler. He has a 5pd '00 si with headers, intake, and exhaust. Not looking at who is the better driver......which car is faster. Thanks.

The Max is faster but it is the same with cars of lightweight and more power than necessary to push it down the road as in this case, so don't take him too lightly. Nail your throttle and whatever you do get into 3rd gear as quick as you can and he'll be reading:

All the way to the finish line. The Max is a faster car but it seems that some things always come down to the driver, rather than the car itself.

Race him, beat him and shut him up and he'll want no more of you ever again. Every Civic I've raced here knows of my car and they've passed it on to their other buddies not to try me unless they are boosted.

You have a stick and a lighter car than mine, so you should be able to win handily, stop worrying and start winning.

Unless the civic has a rocket engine duct-taped to its 4-foot high spoiler, there is no way in hell your fast and furious-obsessed friend can take a max. It isn't even a contest. Good god - why does this question even have to be asked anymore? There are exactly 2 commonly made cars that can take my 2k2 max on a regular basis - the vette (of course) and the cobra. For mustang fans - I race GT's all the time and can hang with them even up to any speed im confortable going. A couple of nights back i even suprised the hell out of a cobra who didnt think that I would have the balls to race him. I jumped out in front of him in first hung even through second and then he pulled away solidly into third. There isnt a honda made that can take a max - period and unless your friend has some kind of super speedy decals that make him go faster than a 90 horsepower little hamster powered engine can take him.

Your faster both on paper and in reality. Of course if he beat someone's mom in an auto max - I would believe him, but he didn't beat anyone who knows how to drive.

There are exactly 2 commonly made cars that can take my 2k2 max on a regular basis - the vette (of course) and the cobra.

330(c)i perf. package, G35, 350Z, SRT-4, S4, WRX, STI, EVO...all come in under the price of a Vette and will take a stock 2k2 Max when driven well, except maybe the wrx from a roll

im not sure about that... the maxima auto at the very least is .8 seconds slower. its still quick but nothing like the stick. i think the 5spd you went against, he didnt know how to drive and prolly shifted too early.

i know because i drove both auto and stick, it was no comparison.

and also, nissan autos do suck. i thought i had a fast car with my last one.... riced out 240sx with EVERY SINGLE bolt on @ http://members.cardomain.com/mynismo

i ran a 17.2 at the track. i know if i had a 5spd i would have broken into 15's.

I'm just telling you what happened when we raced, if you don't believe it then that is fine that is your opinion and you're entitled to that.

You said it yourself .8 difference and as I stated he slept and took me for granted so it isn't like it can't happen.

I don't seem to understand this thing that people think that just because you have a stick the other person is going to be just sitting still waiting for you to take the lead. I'm hot on the throttle and I do torquebrake when racing so if you're sleep and take me for granted it will be hard for you to make up the difference in the gap that will be growing while you are grannyshifting or whatever you're doing.
