Has anyone had a good/bad experience installing an aftermarket remote start and keyless entry system on a '95 or other Grand Am? What brands are easy to install or are a real pain in the ... ? Any helpful suggestions are appreciated. Christmas is coming...

I sell and install mostly DEI stuff so I will have to say go for them. They might be more $$ than others but they really seem to work nice. Stay away from Bulldog stuff. Your car is pretty easy to install on. Goto www.directed.com to look around. If you want to install one yourself, give me an email about it.

Of the DEI models, what would be a relatively inexpensive model for remote start with keyless entry and 2 remotes? Yes, I'm doing the install, since recent unemployment is making every dollar count and giving me time to mess with it. How long does it take to install such a unit? I do have some experience, but won't dare consider myself to be a pro.

Has anyone had a good/bad experience with Ultra Start remote starters (www.ultrastarters.com)? How do they rate compared to the DEI starters?

If you want to get something cheaper, I would goto AutoPage but that's just me. I prefer the DEI stuff.

I have the Ultra Start 1600, and it was easy to install in the Grand Am. You need to add a couple of relays for the door locks, though. Now if I could figure out how to get the rear defrost to work from one of my extra output buttons, it will be perfect. Anyone have a suggestion?

I assume you must have an older G-am since you did not talk about Passlock when you said you installed your remote start. On most GM cars, it is a simple (-) pulse to get the latching relay in the car to activate the defrost. So, just hook up your output wire directly to the defrost if you have the same output. To test the defrost, you will need to use a meter to see what wire does what when you press the button.
