I have a 1998 Integra GS-R with a factory radio/cd player. All of the sudden the cd player is popping an error PEO...I am following the manual's instructions to clean or try new cd, but nothing is working. The cd goes in, the display shows "0" then shows P-E-O.... ARRRRRGGGGHHHH!
Should I go to the Ac dealer and have them repair or go to circuit city and just buy a new radio/cd player....better yet, is this something I can fix myself?

step 1--radio code: Do you have it? If not, look for the code in your manual or it can also be on the dealer printouts when u get work done. Otherwise, pull out the stereo and get the serial number off of it. Take it to the dealer with your registration and they will look up the code for you.
step 2--disconnect power: take out the radio fuse (below the steering wheel). Then pop the hood and take out the other radio) or maybe alarm fuse or anti-theft fuse).Give it a couple minutes. Notice that the red light on the stereo will turn off (the alarm one). Put the fuses back it.
step 3 code--power on the stereo and enter the 5 digit stereo code. then it should work.keep the code in your manual or at home in case u gotta do it again.

I was getting a similar error when I bought my 95 LS a few weeks ago. I removed the cover and found that the disk was not spinning so I forced it to spin a few times then sorta splashed some rubbing alcohol around the motor area, I also cleaned the lens half-heartedly then tried it again. It started to spin on it's own then the sound came back a bit choppy. After closing the cover and reinstalling it and trying a few cd's it finally started playing correctly on its own.
You might not have my luck and it's possible you may have to change the laser assembly or motor to get it working but if you got nothing to lose, give it a shot. I think if you have to take it into a shop you may be better off buying a new one...I was a repair tech once!:D

Hey Spyorg,
You sound like you are pretty good with your hands...unfortunately, no one in my household is that talented yet ;-)
Thanks for your help!

u r welcome!
I think the cd player that came with the car has a special DIN plug so that it can be used with the stock radio. If you buy an afternarket cdplayer you may want to ask the salesman how your new cdplayer will be hooked up. I don't remember if new cdplayers come with that DIN plug that interfaces with the acura radio.
You may have to buy a complete cd/player/radio/amp system if the new cdplayer cannot be interfaced with your stock radio. You can also buy the OEM player from Acura, but it might be expensive.
Good Luck! :)

...OK...I think I am confused now. I think I understand that some special Acura componet may not jive with just any radio. Is this correct?
If this is the case, I will need to by a whole new system...I don't know if I want such an investment. Hubby and I are trying to trade the car in because I had a baby recently...therefore, hot chick in green Ac coupe days are over with for right now. Hopefully I can find a reputable audio shop in the area who will not take advantage of my lack of knowledge on the subject.
Thanks!

Sorry about the confusion.
The best thing to do would be to simply buy a replacement from your acura dealer. That would guarantee that it works with the radio. It needs to be plugged into the radio so that you can control it from the radio buttons and get sound to the speakers. This would probably be the most expensive way out.
A less expensive way would be to remove the cdplayer from the car. This requires you remove the center console ( where the shift lever is) and remove the ashtray and some screws behind it. You could then take the player to an electronics store and try to find one that has the same type of plugs . You should ask the salesperson if the replacement would work with your radio.
IF you can't find a player that works with your radio there are some cdplayers that come with an adapter that plugs into your radio's cassette player's tape compartment and that would not require any special wiring skills. This is the least expensive option I think.
Last resort would be to buy a complete new cdplayer/radio/amp system. This might be another expensive option.
Hope this helps! :D

Here's a site that shows how to wire an Alpine cd player to the stock acura radio:
http://www.integracaraudio.com/caraudio/diagrams/DIN.html
Here is what the back of the radio looks like and how to trace the wiring:

Ok ok, here's EVERYTHING you could ever possibly want to know about integra audio! :D

I had the same problem with my cd player. I just used a cd cleaner disk and it worked after I did it a few times. Congrats on the baby. My wife just had a baby boy on the 15th of november, our first.

Oops I forgot about that option! Probably cheapest option yet. It's worth a shot and you can get the lens cleaner cd from most autosound or computer stores. I didn't have much luck using it though, since the problem was most likely the stuck motor and not a dirty lens.
