Now I am curious... There seems to be alot of Silverado's out there, and a big market for aftermarket parts. To what end are these products being used? Are people more interested in raising their trucks, and offroading, or are people interested in lowering, for either showroom or racing purposes?

Personally, I see alot of potential in the Silverado, (particularly the 99' bodystyle and 5.3 engine) to be the best truck out there, bar none. The stance, balance and performance of the truck I drive makes the Lightning and the SRT-10 look nothing special, and its been a whole lot cheaper. With a little time and effort, and not as much cash as you would think, the Silverado easily beats the Ford Lightning, and at less a cost. (Trust me I've invested no more than 23k into the truck I've built (including the purchase of the truck), and I have the time slips to prove it.) If Chevy had devoted its resources to performance instead of luxury on a huge extended cab SS, I think you would see alot of devoted Chevy fans in line to buy such a beast. (Just my two cents)

I recently bought my truck back from my Uncle, who ran the truck at Bandimere Speedway, in Colorado. The altitude there is a little over a mile high, which adds almost a full second to run times. Also showing up the day he ran were 3 Ford Lightnings, including the newest, "improved" Lightning. That Lightning ran in the 14.80's. My truck clocked in at 14.20. Not bad for a truck, and not bad considering that could easily be low 13's at sea-level.

So is there anyone else interested in racing trucks? Anyone else who builds to perform? Seeks to destroy Lightnings? (And now I must add some more oomph to kill me some Rams)

Im just curious to see what anyone else is interested in, and I could also get performance parts for cheap, just leave me a private message if there are certain parts you would like. (Im always willing to help destroy the competition and add prestige to the GM name.)

So what has been done to your truck....you say you got it from your uncle and he had it runnin a 14.20....im just wondering what mods he did to it.

i ran my truck at sears point raceway and the best run i had was a 15.41.....lets see i have Edelbrock Headers and 40 seies flowmaster exhaust, with the hypertech power programmer 3 and a K&N cold air intake....when i ran the 15.41 i didnt have the headers yet, so i am still wondering what i am going to run if anything that different....

Most the modifications on the truck were made by myself. I sold the truck to my uncle, when I purchased a beat up Corvette, and decided to build that up.

There are alot of various modifications on the truck, but the performance mods are actually not as in depth as I have planned for it. I focused more on making my truck pretty, and show-worthy before deciding to focus on the performance. The first thing I did was completely remove the door handles and the handle on the tailgate. This however hasnt been entirely wise, because I have had some problems with the servos in the door mechanism.

Before I added more horsepower, I lowered the truck, and put in a different suspension.

I changed the rest of the appearance of the truck, prefering the solid blue to the gaudy, plastic/chrome I think Chevy overdoes on its trucks, and also put in some Street Scene Grills.

For performance, I added the K&N Filter, used the Hypertech Power Programmer, and threw in some headers. I never did dyno my truck with just these mods, but thats what the truck looked like before my Uncle got ahold of it.

Since then he has changed the wheels and tires, putting on the current SS Silverado's wheels and tires. (Which looks pretty damned good actually, I just dont have pictures of it yet.)
For performance he has put in a Viper Nitrous Kit, and I believe that is what he used to get the 14.20's.

Im currently trying to get my uncle to send me the slips or put them on the internet via scanner/photo,as well as throw some pics of my truck with the new wheels my way, but hes slow with this newfangled internet.

Your headers should add...8-15 HP? Im not too sure on what the specs on those are, but you should lower your times a bit. You pretty much have everything done that I do, with the exception of the Nitrous.. (Some like it some dont, and I dont really like it much myself.)

i have a 99 5.3 with a six inch lift. i like the lifted look, but i also like racing. i have a 40 series flow master, k&n fipk kit, hypertech, and 4.56 with posi. i put 33's on it, and 4.11's would have brought it back to stock, but i put 4.56's in it for better acceleration. man what a differance!!! i was chirping second gear with 33's!!!!! i may not have top end but the accel is incredible. before considering any more engine mods look at putting gears in...they gave a better performance gain than my chip, exhaust, and intake!
