Power breaking

I have an AT car and I have used "power breaking" to launch my car a few times. I was wondering if anyone knows which gear(L,2,3,D) is best for doing power breaking and @ what rpm.

mine is (D,2,1), I am assuming 'L' for you is the same as '1' for me......I brake boost from '1' so I would assume that your best bet would be from 'L'. And about the RPM....that varies from car to car of course.

D, 2 , L for me. I run out of 2 and try to push it into drive at about the speed the trans is rated for in that gear. For me it's about 60mph. L runs out so quick at about 20mph. You could just try running it from low during the whole run. Personally i would not.

I had my fast idle stick in the van, so I stopped and did a little power braking to get it unstuck.... It nearly stalled :grinno:

Of course, when I let off the brake, I left a 20 foot patch :iceslolan

Doesnt it cause noticeable damage when you power brake a FWD car??

"...push it into drive at about the speed the trans is rated for in that gear"

Can you damage your trans if you shift to D at a high speed and should you let go of the gas? cauz I know if you drop from N for boosting you can reck ur car.

It's a 01 cavalier with cold air intake and performance chip on it.

I'm not even sure if you can do power breaking on a FWD.

Going from neutral to any gear while giving it gas is life threatening to your transmission. D is short for Drive, that would be your final gear... your top gear. Yes you should shift to D, if you want to manually shift your car shift it in order 1, 2, 3, 4. And since it's an automatic you do not have to let off the gas. Just keep the go pedal to the floor.

Mkay.

Yes, you can. As long as you don't mash on the pedal and expect to turn the tires over you'll be ok. Just don't hold the car for extended periods of time by power braking it. You'll over heat your tranny and it'll go boom. Then it sucks to be you.
