Upgrade factory speakers

I want to upgrade my stereo. I don't want to add too much weight or enter an SPL competition or anything like that. I just want to have a little more sound. Is it possible to upgrade my factory speakers and run them all from my factory head unit? If not, will and aftermarket CD player be sufficient? I'll add a SMALL amp if needed, but like I said, I'd rather not. I like my whip to be fast, and the more weight the less happy I'll be. I'm one of these fools that thinks taking out the back seat will make a significant difference. BTW I own a '98 Civic EX 2dr, and the factory audio seems to be in good shape. The car only has about 46k on it, and the lady that had it before me only got it because of the sunroof. I took it in as a trade at my old dealership, and it really is a cherry. Thanks

yeah, you can easily upgrade your current speakers. the speaker located in the door panels are 6.5" speakers, and the ones on the rear deck are 6x9 speakers. both sizes are easy and cheap(altho you can spend a significant amount on them) to find. find some that fit your budget, but also have good reviews. you won't need and amp, altho it is an optional thing to add. but in your case, your trying to save weight, so no amp needed. you will run into a somewhat pain in tha ass time trying to remove the rear deck. its not easy especially cuz you are cramped in the back seat. i can't remember exactly how i did it when i replaced mine( i have a 97 coupe) but i know you have to put both seats down, and pop out the left and right panels(the plastic panels to your left and right if you were sitting in the back seats). you have to pop them out just enough so you can pull the rear deck up. you will see how it is overlapped by them. the rear deck itself just pops out(i think, you may want to climb in your trunk and look for any bolts, but i think its just plastic pin things that keep it in place) and so just pop it up and pull it out. be careful tho, make sure you disconnect your 3rd brake light bulb. then you will have access to your rear 6x9 speakers. goodluck

Good deal. I'll be checking more into that soon. I think I'm going to upgrade to an aftermarket CD player though. Thanks,
