tires for 2002

Hi,

I am driving 2002 SE which has standard 265/70/16 tires(almost the same size as 31/10.5/15). This is very uncommon size. The BFGoodrich has them in Long Trail (standard) and A/T editions. But they are pretty expensive. May be somebody can suggest me any other A/T tire that will fit? By the way the 2002 model has mud flaps already trimmed for bigger tire size. What do you think about 275/70/16 - they are 31.3" in diameter comparing to 30.7 of 265/70/16? Is the width OK? Can they be fitted in the rear as a spare tire?

Look at the Pro Comp muds, they have received very good reviews, are siped for better wet/snow traction and are very reasonably priced...in fact 4 Wheel parts wholesalers www.4wheelparts.com has a buy 3 get one free sale.

yes, fsr is right. i also have a 2002 and priced the meats to replace the stock general 16". what a joke. i can get four 15" american racing wheels and four 31-10.5-15 procomps for less. and the procomps are made by cooper. i am going soon... :pgo here --->http://www.4wheelparts.com/product2.asp?imseqn=1042&occlass=TWD&cat=PAC see part number --->PCTMT31

Are you set on AT?? If so then the BFG AT's are awesome and worth the cash in my opinion. I have run the heck out of mine and they never fail me on any terrain. You may have more options with mudders etc - check out Goodyears MT Tire - its pretty awesome although I dont know the sizes. Dunlop has some nice ones too (basically Goodyears) for a decent deal. Superjens picked up some sweet meats in BC for not too much apparently.

The ones I got are Dunlop Mud Rovers, no idea how they perform offroad yet (only had 'em a week). They're a bit loud on the street though. They better perform well in the mud or I'll be kicking myself. Actually, used toilet paper probably would work better than those useless BFG Long Trails I had before so I guess anything's an improvement.

I figured someone would pick up on "Sweet Meats"..........

How is cornering on the Dunlops?? Are they siped??

Wouldn't the offset on those wheels, (the part# PCTMT31), cause problems? Anyone have any experience using those wheels or wheels with a similiar offset?

I went the opposite way. My original tires were 265/70R-15 and I switched to LT265/75R-16. The tires are more expensive, but a wider variety of rims are available. The positive side I have found is in mud. Because of the extra gap between the rims and rear drums and front rotors, mud no longer stays on the inside of the rim giving me the heebie jeebies on the way home. It also makes cleanup easier. It ain't for everybody, but I am glad I did what I did. I gained 2" of height but had to cut like h@#$ for the fit. I encountered rub at several points requiring some metal modifications to facilitate stuffing at the stock ride height.

They're not siped, and it's something I might do later on. As for cornering, the side lugs end up rolling on the ground so the noise increases. Note that I never, ever drive fast on the road in this truck anyways so I really can't compare these to the Long Trails in cornering speed. With that said however, there were a few times I sweeped around some bends quickly to see how it would feel, and I have no complaints.

I miss driving like a maniac. My Civic was perfect for that, now I have to make do with my girlfriend's 4-door automatic Mazda Protege for my 2-wheel drive city fun. That thing sucks.

My X corners a lot better with the new shocks. I tend to drive the hell out of it.

I got some sweet new steel wheels today - Ill put some pics up once Canon gets their thumbs out and gets my camera back to me.. (six weeks! and it was new).

OZ??? What kinda wheels did you procure? Did you get some of them there Xlax Xterra Steel wheels?

No Sir - they look like they are aluminum but they are steel. They have a "bright" finish. They look sweet and are very durable. Im going to run on them on and off road with my BFG AT's until I get some Goodyear MT/R's for the old set.
$30 a wheel so I dont feel too bad. I got them at Discount Tire. I had to go through three sets before they found a (cheap) pair that had the offset for the X.

Ill post some detailed info and pics when Canon decides I can have my camera back.:rolleyes:
