Whats the difference between an intake manifold and headers on a turbo?

Hello I was wondering what is the differnece between a header and a intake manifold for a turbo application? A friend of mine told me that you could not use headers when you have a turbo kit installed in your car, and that you would have to use an intake manifold is this true?

... a "header" and "intake manifold" are on just about every car...lol...

the intake manifold is what is bolts to the "intake" side of the head. and the exhaust manifold or "header" is bolted to the "exhaust" side of the head. Go to http://www.howstuffworks.com .. you could learn a lot. lol...

Well... if you look at it in a certain way your friend is right. With when you install a turbo, basically your "header" or exhaust manifold gets replaced. So basically since the header gets replaced by the turbo you don't need the header any more.

In terms of an intake manifold... every car has one if it has a turbo or not. Have you ever seen an intake? If you have, an intake manifold is the thing the intake is attached to. Doesn't matter if you have a turbo or not, you still have an intake manifold.

So with a turbo application you don't need a header but you need an intake manifold, but then again, your car should already be using an intake manifold, with or without a turbo.
