I do not understand why there is no forum for the Proton brand? The company is certainly a lot larger than other brands given more space? And, if you do your homework you'll see that this is definitely a brand thats expanding in several ways.

The majority of the cars listed here are those which have been widely exported (or at the least, exported to the North American countries)
I don't see alot of interest in the Proton, since the majority of those reading here probably have never even heard of them.

There are several cars listed that are not sold in the states...the rest of N.A. is relatively small in terms of cars sold. Proton is sold in Asia, United Kingdom, and I believe some other European markets. They are expanding into other parts of the world, and just completed a very advanced new manufacturing facility in Malaysia capable of producing another 250,000 units. Proton also owns 100% of Lotus.

I would agree that possibly fewer people may be aware of them , however given their next generation of products and plans for expansion that will change quicly.

How do we get Automotive Forums to list Proton with its own forum?? I believe based on what I already stated, and given their volume it is worthy of its own forum...if you do not see enough activity after a few months then delete it...thanks.

Maybe I am nieve but here in the UK they are not exactly a desirable car. That's not to say it doesn't deserve a forum but I would class the Proton enthusiast more of a die hard fan. I would think a Yahoo group would be the best way to get a Proton forum running as your more likely to reach the real fans of the car and can be more dedicated to it.

Proton is transfer the Mitsubishi technology as an OEM , but only the engine and some body part . which the malaysian can't built by they own. only some rare model like the GTI (Mivac) chansis are tune by lotus ...

Personally I don't like the body paint , the anti rust layer won't last and crack the paint up after few years . (Ps: Malaysian friends told me about it)

maybe they done a fine paint job for export model . and those car have no value in other country .

I am not certain I totally understand your point on no value in other countries ?? By the way, Proton is now producing their own engine with a transfer of Lotus and other technology

If you want to suggest a new forum for Proton, go to the "AF in general" section, and you'll find a forum for suggesting new categories.

It's the old Skoda story reborn really.

Skoda was the brunt of many a joke about the heated rear window to keep you warm when you push it etc. The older ones are actually quite good, my sis had one. People just took the p*ss out of them as they were cheap and nasty looking. Now after many years, they are under the VW umbrella and peole are seeing these new Skoda's and saying "hang on a minute, these are pretty good"

Proton has fallen for the same life. The old ones are the cheap and nasty looking ones (but probably quite nice if you take the time to look and drive one) and the newer ones are a lot better. I bet in a few years, people will be looking at Protons in a new light.

So are Hyundai's and Kia's....but they sell a lot of cars. Also, with Proton's new technology I believe you will agree after seeing that they will be solid competition to competitors as in the aforementioned.

If you want to suggest the creation of a Proton forum then by all means do so in the "New forums" category under "AF in General"

As they grow, people might start talking about them a bit, but so far from what I can see, this is the only thread about them on AF, meaning a significant increase in interest would be required before any Proton forum would really be useful...
