I can recommend 2g GST or GSX the easiest, but if you are going to shell out some money and make it a LOT faster, the 1g motors are suited better. so looks and quick.. 2g, quick and a little more upgradable/faster in the end, 1g.

Whats the difference btwn the 2g and 1g engines? I thought they were both the 4g63's. If it still carries the same name to the 2g, whats the difference. I know the tranni is better, i think. Whats the difference there too.

How hard would the swap be, i know this guy that swapped for a 1g trans, but i cant contact him, lemme know, thanx.

The engines changed for the 93 model year to the 7 bolt vresion. 90-92 is 6 bolt. For an explanation of the difference between the two, search for any one of my 10,000 posts explaining it all.

To the original poster, a 1g AWD is the way to go (90-94), but preferably a 90-92 if you plan to go balls out at some point. People have run deep into the 12s for 4000 dollars total for the car and the parts. Hard to beat that. Any beginner should be able to do it, since its cheap, and there isnt even any tuning involved at this point, though its recomended.

Just for reference, a friend of mine picked up a cheap 1g car. HE put on a turbo back Buschur exhaust, K&N fitler, hacked the MAS to push off fuel cut, installed a 190 walbro pump, and a 50 dollar manual boost controller. Add C16 race fuel, cranked the boost up to ~22 psi, and ran 12.5-7s all night. With just a cheap pocketlogger and AFC the same car does low 12s. Doesnt mean everyone can go out and duplicate these results, but it gives you an idea of how easily one can get started off right with dSMs... ;)
