I Am Looking Into Some Different 80's Celacas As A Summer
Toy. Locally, Ihave Looked At A 87 Supra Non Turbo Automatic
2 Owner Orginally Florida Car With 25,000 +/- Miles, Excellent
Condition Except For Some Crows Feet And Cracking Of Original Paint $6000. (white With Maroon Cloth Interior)
Everything I Read About Them Omes To The Same Connclusion,
Expensive To Repair And Maintain. Also, Locally, Iam Going To
Look At A 1 Owner 85 Gts Hatchback Loaded Plus Five Speed
With 57k Original Miles And Originak Red Paint, Car Is Supposed To Be 95% Perfect ?? Winter Priced At $3995 Very Unusual For Two Rather Rare Low Mile Celicas Come Up At The Same Time In My Area And Right Before Winter?? I Have Also Seen A 1984 Supra
With About 60k 2 Owner Supposed To Be All That Plus Which
Probably Sell For Between The Mid Fours To Mid Fives.
I Am Looking For A Fun Car To Drive Occasionally In The Good Weather That Will Not Send Me To The Poor House But Also Be
A Good Looker . I Like The Looks Of The 1987 But Do Not Know If I Want To Get Into The Potential Money Pit Syndrome Even Though It Only Has 25,000 Miles . The 84 Supra Sounds Good
But I Can Not See It In Person Before I Buy It. The 85 Gts
Sounds Almost To Good T Be True, I Will See It And Drive It Tomorrow. I Like The Idea That I Read Such Good Things About
The 85 Celica Gts, Bullet Proof Motor, Fun To Drive, Supra
Interior Etc.
So, All Of This Said Which Car Do You Think Will Fit My Wants
The Best ??
Should I Forget About The 87 , Being Expensive To Maintain ,
Automatic, Some Minor Paint Damage Etc.
The 87's Just Seem To Be Problematic.
The 84 Supra Sounds Good , But Hard To Compare Without Seeing And Driving .
Is Ther A Big Difference In Performance Of A 85 Gts And A 84 Supra ?
Are The 84 Supras Six As Reliable And Bulletproof As The 85 Gts ??

if you want it to be fun dont get the 87 supra. automatics are definitely not fun unless its a turbo pushing 500hp+. the 84 supra would be sweet and the GTS would be alright too. id take the 84 supra though as long as it was a 5 speed.

I've never driven an 84 Supra, but I have an 85 Celica GTS Liftback... Its a 5 speed and REALLY fun to drive... Only problem is, the 22-RE motor can only push around 250HP max NA, but it is a VERY reliable engine. Mine has 190K miles on it, not a single problem with the motor at all. obviously the I-6 can push more power out than the I-4, as far as Supras/Celicas go... So, I can tell you that the 85 GTS is a good buy, especially for the low miles that you claim it has. Have fun!

i raced an 83 supra today and it was very close. when i raced an 84 GTS i beat him by a little more than a car length so the performance between the supra and GTS is pretty close. im sure the GTS handles better though. but it would be so easy to swap a 7MGTE into the supra and easily make 300hp to the wheels with less than a grand in bolt ons.
