Have a Moroso distributor (awesome), a custom SS catback with great sound which I love + an FX air filter - better than F&N... Throws a lot of oil but doesn't smoke - I think there's a pbm with the oil pump but it doesn't leak oil on the driveway, either.
As I look into the rearview mirror when I get on it there's a cloud of oil coming out the back, but the power is still there... this is a rapid vehicle - chirps into second with authority. Wet road? Forget it - produces steam effortlessly. Almost as strong as my 133 MPH ZX Turbo several years ago (redline +). Punch it at 30 MPH and I get wheelspin if the road is wet. Top end easily 130+.
What I don't understand is why the oil consumption is so bad - one quart a week. It doesn't smoke at all on moderate acceleration or even when starting cold (seals are ok).
Whatever is wrong with it I intend to rebuild it this spring. But I'm wondering if there is anything I can do to it for a few extra HP even if I ignore the oil consumption problem. I've got the intake covered with the FX filter and the back end covered by the catback. Headers are an option, i know, but what else can be done without serious mech mods?
I want my beautiful Lude to be as quick as my ZX Turbo was. Stock HP is 165 or so. The ZX was 180. Can I get 200 HP W/O cams or a compression increase? I've been told to mill the head and install a cam but this would lead into all sorts of other things - pistons, rods, crank, ect.
Is the only thing left NOx, a turbo or a supercharger? I realize that it's just an air (gas) pump in the end, but it seems that there are other things that could be done. Do you know of any alternatives? I admit I'm not a very good mech but I do have the desire for better performance.
Thanks
Rick
