tailgate handle broke, need to get liner off

I have a bedliner and recently my tailgate handle broke while my tailgate was in the closed position. To get in there and fix it I need to take the tailgate liner off, but cant seem to since its closed (there are two plastic holders on the sides which are inaccesable when closed) anyone know how to get the tailgate open with out the handle or have any other suggestions?
