Splicing an Equalizer into the sub lines.

I'm unhappy with my crossover filters built into my amp (it lets to much low through, which results in the sub cutting out on especially hard bass hits)
Anyway, I was wondering how easy/possible it would be to splice some sort of equalizer into the sub output. Is it as simple as splicing some adapters onto the wiring and then plugging those into an EQ, or what?

Basically, how feasable is the idea?

the idea is incredibly easy, but not very efficient. If you have a system EQ placed BEFORE the crossover, you have already done that. NOTE: you cannot do this if you are using the built in crossover in your head unit.

I don't have a system EQ before the crossover, except for the little three-band deal in the head unit, however, there is an option in my head unit to apply the three band to just the speaker wiring, not the RCA outputs.

My head unit doesn't have a cross over.

Allright, since you're saying it's easy, I'll go ahead with it then. next question is how much for an eq. nothing dirt cheap, but I don't want one made of solid platinum either. I would prefer name brand. Any suggestions? thanks.

A good maker of EQ's is Audio control. The EQL shouldn't set you back too much.
