I guess I'll do the typical newbie intro here, in my first post. So... hi. :)
I just wanted to know if any of you have any proactive tips for someone (like myself) who's picking up a brand new 2004 GLS w/leather/sunroof etc., in a few days.
Scanning these forums (including the "thinking of buying a jetta" thread posted at the beginning of the month), and currently owning a 97 GL, I can anticipate having to keep an eye on the typical little electrical things, as well as:
The window brackets
The ignition coil pack
The fuel pressure regulator
...
anything else you think I should be wary about? My rationale in asking is, if I know that these problems may come at me down the line, at least I can take some preventitive steps to save me some bucks. :)
I don't plan to do anything to the car beyong a slight window tint. I'm getting too old for mods (27.. :p ), and my other hobbies suck too much time and money from me as it is. I just want to keep this car looking and performing like new for a long time to come.
I love VWs. They're not perfect though. I've had my share of issues with mine, but for the most part it could have been prevented with proper care. Hence this thread. :)

Well, I made the leap about 3 weeks ago, and I did have a problem with it. BUT it had nothing to do with the car per se.
Some guy decided to drunkenly stumble into the driver side mirror while I was parked in a lot, and the mirror snapped off. Yay repair bill.
Other than that, I love the car so far. If anyone's thinking of buying an '04 GLS I'd be happy to field any questions.
