Ive got a nos question. How much retard in timming do you need for a 100hp shot of NOS? This particular car has an APE chip which naturally advances timming, should the chip stay? Or should it be dumped.

I talked to some gear heads the other day and one guy said if the shot is small enough you dont have to bother with retard in timming. I think I'll research that myself, but I want to know what everyone thinks.

If you have a mustang then dont put NOS or any other nitrous at all. If you have an import then I guess its ok I'm not a big fan of nitrous at all. It's just a temporary boost of horsepower. In my opinion save up for a super or a turbo that is horsepower that lasts.

Nitrous is cheap and easy, and I don't see a problem with it. Now I would set the timing back to stock, 10*, and ditch the chip! What mods are done to the car to necessitate a chip in the first place?

I don't know what year ya car is cause it changes a few things but general rule of thumb for a 100 shot one step colder plugs(learn how to read plugs) and 2 degress retard.

Get rid of that chip!!!!!!!

well as long as you don't say it like "nawz" then its cool, i think 100shot shouldn't be a problem. get rid of the chip!!!!!

oh and, when your posting thinka bout calling it N20, gets less people steamed and is the proper name for it. NOS, is a company

30lb injectors more air added via cobra intake and cold air with K&N,1.7 rollers with 190lgh fuel pump. The chip seems to make the car run cooler as well as increase horse power.

I bet you can get the same results by just advancing the timing manually, running a performance thermostat and tweaking the fuel pressure. In any case, I would lose the chip if you plan on running nitrous. Was the chip custom burned for your set up, or is it just a generic off the shelf one?

The chip came out of another mustang same year with same upgrades.

But was it custom burned, or is it generic? What brand?

As far as chip goes you want a flip chip so that you have two settings one for N/A and one for NO2.

The rule of thumb I have gone by is 2degrees for every 50 hp. I use an MSD adjustable timing control for this. I always run 93 at least and if I plan on running the juice I add NOS octaing boost. I have very good luck with this system and it drops over a full second off my 1/4 time slip.

Think I'll go the supercharger route. I dont think I like the idea of having to refill the bottle. How much boost is enough obviously I'm thinking MAX like 9psi. But I don't want to destroy the engine. How much of a horse power increase can I expect from 6psi?

The choice of nitrous also needs to consider what you want to use the car for. If you want the car to be a daily driver, with the occasional ass hauling race, then go with nitrous. If you like to rip it up at the track constantly, or you want a car that is always scratchin the tires, then go with a blower or turbo.

Things to consider though are that a blower cost about 4 to 5 times as much as nitrous. On the other hand, there is no bottle to fill on a blower or turbo...

if you have a 5.0, and your run a 100 shot of n2o adjust the timing to 12 degrees, there it is simple and easy.thats all you have to know..o by the way that chip is a waste of money! buy and MSD digital 5.

y would having an import make it ok to get nitrous, but not a domestic??? nitrous is the best bang for ur buck. u can still T/B or S/C ur car w/ nitrous.
