don't know if this will help but it might get you started....i didn't go through the firewall. i have a 92 EB and i don't know if the 96 is set up the same or not but the battery is on the pass. side so i ran my power wire along the ps fenderwell, when i got to the firewall i ran it up to the top back side of the fender where there was a space (at the top end of the fender where it is bolted to the truck) i ran it through and if you open the pass side door you can see behind the fender. i used a coat hanger (real high tech) and grabbed the wire and pulled it through. At this point the wire was coming throuh the door jam. on mine there was a rubber grommet that went through the door jam. i pulled it out and made a hole it it and stuffed my power wire through it. after that i took off the pass side kick panel, behind it was the computer, i CAREFULLY took that off and put it aside then ran my wire through and pushed the grommet through. then i ran the wire along the pass side under all the trim pieces to the cargo area, put the computer back, put all the trim back and have no interference with the hood or door, i only made one hole and it was in rubber and you can't see my wiring unless ur looking for it....it came out really clean with no problems. Hope this helps to at least get you started
