Hi everyone! New to this forum and to civics. Just bought an 89 Si for just under $1500 and I must say that I'm quite impressed with it. It has a post 100k stock motor but the guy I bought it from says it has ported and polished, gas-flowed head. Not very sure though but it does go like stink! I guess the 2.5" cat-back exhaust iz a bonus too. It really pulls hard up to 5500 with this supercharger kind of whine! is this normal for a flowed head?

Hey, let me be the first one to say welcome! I don't know about having a gas flowed head, but the Si is a capable engine, and port/polish and a cat-back exhaust definitely make a difference in the power you feel!
It takes a lot less engine size and power to make these cars go fast, that's why they're gaining popularity with so many people. However, most people still opt for swapping out the original Si motor in favor of something that offers a higher power base, like a SOHC Vtec, DOHC ZC, or B16A. They all swap in more or less easily, and I guarantee you'll get a hankering for more power soon enough! So, enjoy your Si and get ready to want more!! Like a wise man once said, modding your car makes heroin addiction seem like a vague desire for something salty!! Happy Driving! :iceslolan:

The head(intake manifold & throttle body) on my civic has been ported/polished, valve job, etc. My car pulls like hell from 4000-7000rpm's. Head work is one of the best engine mod's you can do to any car & yes if your worried about noise, it will be slightly different after the work. My car growls, I guess you would say.

thanx guys, I think I'll stick with the Si motor until it blows-up or somethin' but no mech-problems so far so I'll see what happens. For now i wont mess with ot much but take the time to learn nore about it so that when i stick my head into somethin, I dont end-up in regret due to poor research or misinformation. Thanx for the head-up guys and hope to meet and share with more people!

ive heard the ZC is a JDM motor, any reasonable sources for this motor or should I stick with SOHC and get the Z6? whats the ZC weigh compared to the Z6 and what are the trade offs in terms of pwer and handling?
