vs
98 Lexus GS 300 auto

my friend keep talkin shit with his GS 300...

your car is faster...but his is a whole hell of lot nicer

hell yeah. but i do love that sc430, their quad cam v8 is sweet. and an is300 is like an N/A supra but with VVti and can take turbo's nicely. i don't dislike lexus at all, i really like them a lot. i work at a private golf course and i see some phat Lexus(lexii), but that particular model really is so much like a camry, i can only see it as a waste of money.

i think one of my friends parents used to have a gs 300. i forgot... you're right.... but its more like avalon than a camry (being that the avalon is the exact same car, just better)

they are both VERY nice cars... i really got to like four door sedan imports lately. when i was looking for a car a lil more than a month ago, i narrowed it down to three: camry, avalon, maxima. they are almost the exact same cars.... but avalon is the best. i wanted one because my cousin has one and it's great, but i couldn't find any for sale. they are pretty rare around cleveland. there were a few camry's out here but they wanted too much, and i thought i'd stick to my nissan pride. maxima is a lovable car, i won't get anything else for quite some time now.

gs300 is a skinnied down lex.... still nice but doesn't come close to the others. is300 is pretty cool, but still lacks a nice luxory aspect. the new 430's are very nice.

that's funny i was looking for something sports car-ish so i looked at and test drove a 3000gt, a 95 se maxima loaded, and a 94 sh prelude, all 5 speed. the 3000gt was too damn slow and heavy and the prelude had no balls til vtec. i ended up with the max and then progressed on to this one. and i had a 96 200sx se-r before the max. i'm just a nissan man i suppose.

If you think the GS300 is a over sized Camry/Avalon what do you call the GS400/430 then?

nismo's right it's more like the avalon. the gs3's oversized cuz it's powered by the exact same 3.0 as the Avalon and 400lbs more at 3635 and costs 4K more on average than the avalon and much more than the camry which is only shy by like 20 hp and weighs substantially less.

kinda like an I30 vs. a maxima

a GS3 is a great looking RWD luxury car, with not much sport. avalon is FWD near-luxury that is ugly. GS3 is WAY nicer than an avalon, any day of the week.

nicer, definitely and it's most likely faster. but still not fast. if a car's gonna weigh 3635 lbs it needs more pep than 220 hp and 230 tq can provide a car that heavy. a 3000lb max should walk it.

Deadman, I understand what he is saying the GS300 however nice it is isn't anything more than a luxury Camry, it is very overweight and underpowered for it's cost.

The GS400/430 are totally in another ballpark altogether, these cars are the tops of their class and have the b*lls to back it up as well.

I personally would rather get a BMW 5 series than to get the GS300 for the money because dollar for dollar you'll get more ummph from the B than from the Lex.

And to answer the original question, your Max is much faster but no one will bother to notice you because you haven't paid as much for your car as they did for the Lex.

Yes, I've rode in one plenty of times, my ex-gf has one, don't get me wrong it is a very solid car but I guess we are talking speed and you're talking build quality/overall quality of which I believe that no one is doubting it because simply put it is a Lexus.

However, when it comes to speed there is a day and night difference from the GS3 to the GS4, you can feel the b*lls on the GS4 whereas, the GS3 doesn't seem to have that get up and go that you would expect from a car costing that much in this segment.

Dollar for dollar and bang for the buck my money wouldn't go on the GS3 if I were looking for speed.

lexus is a damn good car company, as is Yota. but, if you are getting a GS300 for speed, you're barking up the wrong tree, get a supra.
if you want it for reliability, it's a good choice, for surprisigly good bad-weather driving(tcs equipped), also a good choice, and for a status symbol, it's good choice. but i wouldn't call it fast.
