Hey
I was just wondering how much shipping is for about 6 models from HLJ. Cos me and my friend were gonna get 3 models each from HLJ and split the shipping. Cos ive heard that you save on shipping with the more items you order.
Cheers for any help in advance.
EDIT:: Forgot to add, this is by SAL shipping.

You need to watch the weight as well. With SAL, if the total weight of a single package goes over two kilograms then the cost skyrockets. Probably a good idea to drop HLJ an email and ask them how it works.

I haven't bought 6 kits at once, but all the packages I've gotten from them have been in what they call a "small pac," which in my experience has run around $10-$15 to ship. Sorry I can't give you a better answer, but that might give you an idea of what to expect.

The kits all add up to just under 2kg, but HLJ says that the box can weigh from 800 grams up to 2kg also. So it could weigh up to 4kg. Though i dont see how a cardboard box can weigh 2 kilos. I guess im really just asking how much of a saving is there for shipping multiple items. Doesnt have to be the amount specified, but if its around 900yen per item for shipping, how much does it go down? to like 500yen per item or something?
I emailed HLJ about it and got a friggin essay back that told me if i order over 1 million yen worth of stuff then they ship for free or something, but that doesnt really help.

I am not sure where you live, however from my experience with ordering three kits at a time, the cost usually ends up at about 1580 yen or around 527 yen per kit. That is by SAL - Small Pack to Australia. The total packaged weight of the three kits in the packing box on average is around 1.1kg so theoretically your six kits should come in a little over 2kg. This will probably mean you will pay considerably extra for postage. I guess the only option is to suck it and see or order fewer kits.

Hi,
if the weight of all your kits is under 2kg, the box is around 1kg itself (assuming all of your stuff are 1/24 kits). However, if you have some big kits, the weight of the box itself could run up to 2kg (possbile, I did ship a box with 12kits inside to AUS, and the box itself weighs 2kg alone)
here are some information I searched for you:
http://www.post.japanpost.jp/english/fee/intel/airmail.html
Small packet Up to 2,000 g to US
By Airmail (Small packet) : 2,760 yen
By SAL (Small packet) : 2,080 yen
By Airmail (parcel): 3,850 yen
hope it helps, check the PM I sent to you.

You should be okay. Hopefully the people packing the kits should be expert in their country's shipping rules and will arrange things to give you the lowest cost. For example, if it is cheaper to send your order in two packages the they should be clever enoough to do that. Not quite sure how good HLJ is at that but some other Japanese stores like Rainbow 10 are brilliant at it - one of the reasons they get my business. On the other hand HobbySearch can screw things royaly - and therfore don't get my business.

3kits +3wheels around 1.2kg
the weights of the box probably 800g
if lucky enough that is not exceed 2kg, then the shipping cost will be SAL (Small packet) : 2,080 yen
if the box is more than 800g, then you will have to pay for 3kg postal fee......

I usualy get 2 kit and some stuff (like primer CF decal and gundam marker) it's about 15$US to canada.
I think 6 kit would be near 40$US, and EMS should cost near the same as SAL at this point

This is what it actually has cost me in the past...
When I ordered one 1/24 kit on it's own it cost from 680 yen to 780 yen depending on how heavy or complex the kit was. 780 is the most I have payed for a single kit.
When I ordered ten 1/24 kits together it cost 3960 yen...that's only 396 yen each! These came packed in two separate boxes.
It would seem the extra weight isn't a problem :grinno:
