Ok, so heres the deal I was planning on buying a 240sx anyway...but some old dude crashed into me today destroying my car. So heres my delema I found a few 240sx's only 2 I really like. ones ..in not so good condition but not super bad condition both but a 5spd, the other is mint but a auto...what do you guys suggest. And how hard is it to convert a 240 auto to manual?.
oh yeah do you think there would be any down sides to the conversion, also how much do you think it'd run me?

Well, lets think either take the bad one and spend the money on fixing it. or buy the good one and spend the same amount or more on trying to convert the thing. I have heard that converting a 240sx from auto to a manual is a b**ch... the parts dont line up and you have to drill knew holes and weld and a bunch of crap. It will either cost alot for a pro or a lot of back break to do it... honestly, autos arnt so bad.

i suggest the 5speed...interior is easier to fix than a tranny swap..
i did the trans swap in my old s14 and it was a bitch. shops will do it for you for sometimes (if youre lucky) under $500 if youre doing an engine swap along with it..
just go stick, live will be easier man, you have my word

btw: expect to pay upwards of $1,500 for an auto->manual swap if youre having a shop do it for you..
if you plan on doing it all yourself, theres a guy that got all his parts for around $700...he was EXTREMELY lucky.if you get all the parts from a dealer, expect to pay $3-4k (parts alone)...if youre a junkyard picker expect around $1,500-2,000 range. either way, its always nicer to start out with stick, i learned the hard way.
hope this info helps

I was thinking the stick to...but a mint, black 240sx is pretty hard to come by around here. One more thing I'm concearned about..handling in rain..after today I think I want to be done with wrecks...how's the 95's + handle.
I'v wanted a 240sx to be my track car, but now I need a daily driver is it good for that? Dont mean to ask so many questions but I want to get on the road again pretty soon.

GAH, your missing the question, 240sx's in general "good all around" cars right?
TheLogikal1
11-27-2003, 01:35 AM
no, theyre unreliable, very few have lsd, underpowered, arent good for drag racing....there are many more cons to list.
so not all-around, but i like the 240sx...
i loved all my s14s.

I see...ick I knew there would be some negitives but wow, I'll still probably end up buying a 240 simply because I'm not currently attracted to anything else right now. The torque numbers look nice for that stock engine thou...guess thats nice. I guess zex kit should do me well.

Shit, I thought I was set ..and avoiding the quest for the s14 5spd that most people go through, the green one was sold before I got to it. Damn.

toldcha a couple days ago, shoulda got it when you had the chance....dont stoop and degrade yourself by buying an automatic 240sx. just wait it out untill you find a 5-speed....after all, its a 240sx, not a lamborghini, that wasnt a once in a lifetime oppurtunity
Mr7
12-01-2003, 07:30 PM
heh I'v been trying to get in contact with those people for a couple days now...as far as the auto I need a new daily driver..sucks having no wheels..as bad as I rather have a 5spd...and know I will be kicking my self if I get the auto, it seems like a possiblity..god I hope I find a 5spd somewhat soon.
TheLogikal1
12-01-2003, 07:44 PM
do me a favor and kick yourself good and hard if you get the automatic.
LoL/jp
seriously, i was in your situation long before...but i made the wrong choice and got the auto....learn from my mistakes man

did you pay for the 5spd conversion?
-edit-
for the sake of not passing up a good deal..I'm really thinking about checking up on the black 240sx, the engine has like 132k miles on it, so I figure It's coming out anyway for another ka, and while thats done I can get a 5spd installed....or I can just look around for parts and try to do the conversion my self.

Luck is not with me, I got in contact with the dealer that black one is sold too.
Found another black one in...pretty shitty condition I think..needs some body work, but only has 110k on it and is allready a 5spd...so I'll see how that works.

The new one I found for like 2k and change, it's a 5 spd the owner just drove it down from colorado...it's in a wreck apperently but the people put all the body parts back on..but didnt line them up right, and there is a dent on the drivers side rear somthin..gonna check it out and take a few pics saturday thou what do you guys think?
Mr7
12-03-2003, 12:48 AM
the 95 240sx, with the misaligned front end, and some damage to the rear worth the 2k and change?
TheLogikal1
12-03-2003, 12:54 AM
2k..check the frame...if its good buy the car. body panels can always be fixed, but if the frame sucks youre just buying garbage.
look for rust and shit. it sounds like a good buy. try to low ball though

TheLogikal1
12-03-2003, 01:08 AM
warps, dents and rust. if you see any rust at all, poke at it, if it breaks off, look at the seller straight in the eye, give him a wedgie, and laught at him for trying to sell it to you.
Mr7
