I solved the problem with my 1994 Dodge Caravan electrical problem
(radio, clock, and door lock not working) it was a fuse.

Now the car alarm (which I didn't know I had) went on when I connected the car battery. I was able to stop the horn alarm by cutting the wire. The lights still flash and the car will not start.. We don't have a manual for the alarm and I don't have any idea how I got the alarm to go on. We have had the car for over a year.
My key has a device that will lock and uplock the doors but that's all. Please help!

i think that the car remote you got was a generic one to the original one, maybe the original owner before you or who ever have it before broke, lost the original remote to the car and got a used one or a new one, does it have the chrysler symbol on it???? did the van orinally come with the door locks and everything electric?, you can ask around the new car dealerships and ask if they will sell you one with the car alarm sybol that will shut off your car alarm i think, and really if you dont want it... just ask some electrican to take it out for you. if you need any help or just let me know what you found out. write to me at [email protected] hope this helps you

I had the same problem with the factory theft alarm on my wife's 97 Caravan. It would not shut off after I had reconnected the battery. I solved it with advice from a two mechanics and my wife.
The first mechanic said to open the driver's door, then disconnect the positive battery terminal, then turn the ignition on to the run position and then reconnect the positive terminal. This shut down the alarm temporarily but the starter still wouldn't work.

The second mechanic suggested I use the valet override button, and hold it down after turning the ignition to run position. This did not do anything at all by itself, but when I combined it with the previous steps, the valet switch kept the alarm from sounding way longer than just the door open and key on steps did.

The breakthrough came when I stilled the alarm with the steps from the first mechanic, used the valet override switch, holding it in, while frantically switching the key from off to start 15 or 20 times in rapid succession. (This was my wife's suggestion) Once it engaged the starter I was home free! I was doing this so frantically that I missed the first two times the starter engaged, but once it worked, all seemed to revert to normal.

So, are all those steps necessary? Who knows? Like Tom Sawyer and his cat in the graveyard, I will probably just do all that stuff at once until it works if this ever happens again.
