Cat-Back???

I'm looking for a cat-back OR just the muffler. What I want is a deep throaty bass, NOT the tin can sound....
I have a muffler shop in town that will do all the piping if I get just a muffler.
Any suggestions..

is it better to get a catback? Or just buying the muffer, then doing custom piping? Cuz it would cost considerably less to buy just the muffler. But performance wise, what would be suggested?

Matters wutz in the car. I would get a whole cat becuase it will sound better and quality is improved if you have like a turbo or something then go with custom piping
