Newly designed car paint stand

well i was going through the tamiya web site and came accoss this paint stand, i think it looks great personaly but will probably be ages till they are here so i designed one myself. thought i would share it with you guys. wouldnt cost much to build and parts car be found at home. hopew you like it

maybe we could make this thread sticky or in the how to section. i think its all pretty self explanatory from the pic.

If you move the pivot points outwards in the block I think you will get a better grip on the outside of the car.

I know this is only a concept sketch, but with the current pivot position the arms are going to set more upright, with moving the pivots outboard and maintaining the position of the 'L' where the elastic is hooked you should get the 'V' you want and better gripping force.

Paint stands are nice, but I still prefer this method. I like to be able to move the car around in my hand as I spray. It especially comes in handy on bodies that have a lot of scoops where you have to make sure the paint gets evenly applied in corners and crevices, or one where the body curves inward severely torward the bottom etc.

yeag it was just a concept sketch, i would place the pivot points a about 60mm centres, it was a not to scale orthographic projection.

i will come up with some more detailed drawings for construction soon

I like to move it around too, I really like that stand though - you could put it on a lazy SUzzane so it could rotate

I thought so, too, but I went ahead and pre-ordered one on HLJ kind of figuring it would come out the same time as the Xania Skyline and they would ship together. But it just came out and they shipped to to me at the end of last week, so in a few weeks I'll be able to tell ya'll how it is.

I really like your design, too, but I've found that for some reason I can never getting around to making tools like that no matter how much I mean to, so since Tamiya was selling one.... And I really got it half for the body stand, and half for that little stand in the background. It has clips to hold trees of small parts or other small parts that stick into the surface of the paint stand, so that you can spray the smaller parts. I have a terrible time painting small parts, so I thought that was a great idea. More about it when it comes, unless someone beats me to the punch.

Chris, that looks pretty cool, I might build one. BTW, quick OT questions is that widebody FD done yet?? Wheres the window tint tutorial, I must not be doing something right with mine, comes out bubly.

Coincidence! Mine came in the mail today (8 day delivery from HLJ, is that a record? Do I get a prize?!) and I was going to post some pictures or something. No need. But it indeed seems very useful. A lot better than my Coke bottles. I espescially like the other half of the stand, the big disk with all the holes. That will be useful for both spraying tiny bits and final detailing of the entire car. Now I just need to build a spray booth and get my airbrush out... Spraycans will be overkill on this thing!

Those do look pretty cool, but like Veyron said, I like to be able to turn it in my hand. I don't like having a fixed one. Then you can't really get into some areas IMO.
