making ls respectable without vtec head

k guys before buying my teg i drove a b20/vtec 4thgen civic and i loved the power. now i have an ls :screwy: big difference. how can i make this mofo pick up quicker without turbo, nos, or vtec. im thinkin bout changing the tranny to gsr to start off with. my block has 140000 miles on it thats why i dont want to do nothing big. wont have as much affect. but would changing cams, springs, retainers, valves and tranny bring me to low 15's. i just want something somewhat respectable in the street. anyone here have an quick ls's???? what setups are u currently using. i need some more speed. and please dont say motor swap im looking for ls power
