I don't know if I have a big steering problem but I got the chance to drive another 91 hatch and it seems that this other hatch was alot easier to turn than mine. I could actually drive with one hand!!!! In my hatch I have to swang it like a school bus. (HARD LIKE HELL!!) Any ideas on what might be wrong????
Thanx

Maybe you dont have power steering and the other one did.

My 90 hatch does not have power steering and it is very hard to turn sometimes.

Yeah, neither does mine. I don't think any hatches or CRX's came stock with power steering (unless the JDM or EDM ones did or something), but at low speeds (like when parking) it's alot harder to steer, especially if you have tires that are wider than the stock ones.
It could be that the owner of the other hatch installed power-steering from a sedan into his hatch? Or, maybe he has a larger diameter steering wheel which would make it easier. Or, his tires aren't quite so wide...
It's no big deal though, you certainly get used to it.

Well I know my friend did not have power steering on his car and I know he is running 205's on his car so he has wide tires.......... So I don't know. I heard before something about oiling the turning control something?? Does anyknow know about oiling something on the steering colume??? I have wide tires also but it still feels like his car is alot easier to turn. Mine feels like a eighteen wheeler or something. I dunno.....................Anyone got any ideas???

Unless something is wrong, its really not too hard to turn the wheel without power steering. I even have a smaller steering wheel on it now and its fine. Parking and backing out is hard sometimes, but not a big deal, when you are driving you cant even tell you dont have power steering. My steering feels much better compared to my girlfriends 4g4d in my opinion.

my 90 si never had power steering, and you had to use both arms to turn the wheels in a parking lot, and that was with the normal tire size on it. When it was moving, i never noticed a difference, and I liked it more on the highway, it wasn't as touchy.

I think without power steering it is touchier than with it. My steering feels much more responsive than my girlfriends car which feels sloppier than mine.

I think it's easier to loose controll with PS than without. Like cot said maybe you should work out or something.

i found my 89 Dx hatch to be easy to turn... one handed no prob.
but my 91 Si Hatch is a bitch to turn. but the more i drive it, the better it becomes. and the honda mechanic topped up the grease fittings. did you just get the car recently? or do u only drive it once a week? i think that was the problem with mine, the last owner only drove it once a month.

only automatics came with power steering, I believe... and I believe it was also a dealer installed option at the time.
I much prefer not having power steering though... seems like the road and the wheels transfer better to my hands without it...
As for the steering wheel being hard to turn... just work out more :P lift weights or something. That's what I do :loser:

Air up your tires to the right PSI, it should be on the side of your tire.
I did this 2 weeks ago and my car turns a lot easier, other than that working out might be a good thing

Check your lower balljoints on your control arm, as well as the balljoints on your steering rack. My steering got very tough just before one of my lower balljoints popped out and almost killed me. Replaced the lot and all is fine again now...

Hmmm that sounds like a plan. Anyone else got any suggestions?

Just got a front and rear alignment, couldn't believe the difference! Never thought that would make it seem easier to turn.

Now you got a point. I know my alignment is all off I think I'll go fix that really really soon :D

You're a wanker and full of shit.
You have NFI about PS, let alone in a 4G
This is my second 4G - from a GL to a SiR and both have PS and I have NEVER lost control of either in 6 years of owning 4Gs - let alone other performance cars with PS.
Maybe you're just a shit driver to think such a thing.
I can't believe I drop back into these forums and see such ill-informed bullshit.

hmmm
not always true. PS is hince taken off all SCCA cars for touring racing for that reason and in all drag cars it is taken off also hince making powersteering alittle on the dangerous side for serious racers.

My 90 STD Hatch was a bitch to turn (and I have the forearms to prove it after three years ;) )...but my 90 Si is MUCH easier to turn...it might be model dependant.
But like the other guys said:
Tire Size, Air (tires), speed at which driving.
Also like they said:
Check ALL ball joints, controls arms, tie rod ends...anything to do with the actual turning of the vehicle....perhaps check your wheel bearings to while you're at it
...you don't hear any kind of "clunking" while turning do you? That would be an axle problem...
...other than that...get used to it...4G hatches can just be a bitch to turn at low speeds. I had a rental car a couple of weeks ago from an accident I had...it had PS...blech!...I was all over the road for the first two days I had it...wayyyy to touchy for my liking.
