I have a 1992 4X4 Pick up that is in need of a cluch replacment. I have been worned to use the OEM replacment and plan to do so. but I am wondering if anyone has done a cluch on this model before, and is it easier to pluu the engin forward (22RE) or drop the T-Case and Tranny?
After a quick look, I assume it's easier to yank the tranny, but I am wondering if there is a trick to getting at the upper bell housing bolts?
Is there enough play in the engine mounts to drop the tranny doun far enough? or will I have to support the engine as well?
Any sugestions that might save me a headach?

hey 72gmc, i 've done an '88 with a 22r several times but with only 2wd but i'm assuming it's about the same! the engine mounts if they're fairly new are very stiff! actually so stiff that when you first remove your drive shaft, i guess in your case it'll be a little half shaft goin to your transfer case and then remove your bolts and support mount from underneath the tranny's gear box that the engine mounts will still hold everything out horizontally with very little drop in the very rear of the tranny! so it's not neccesary to support the engine even though most repair manuals will tell you to do so. the only trick i could find on removing those top bolts on the bell housing is to use the 14mm socket on the end of a universal pivoting joint which is on the end of like a 24" extention. just find the bolts with the socket & extention then when it's on just pop on the ratchet and go to town! i should mention that i'm doing this from underneath with my feet pointing towards the front of the truck. the long extention is the key as well as is the universal joint between the extention and socket! once you've got all the bolts out and your slave cylinder unbolted from the tranny and just secured to the side then it's just a matter of with your head now facing towards the front to start moving the tranny side to side and up and down to try and break the seal and then just keep tuggin it away from the engine till it falls hopefully gently on to your chest and then just gently dump it over to the side and then you can drag it from underneath the truck! don't forget to first unhook any electrical plugs from the tranny! i hope this info might help! good luck!
