1996 Jimmy will not start cold, cranks over and sputters but will not start. If I leave it and come back in 5 minutes starts right up. Once it is started it will start the rest of the day even if it is shut off for a long time and engine reads cold. I have changed the fuel filter and I can hear the fuel pump running. Any ideas?

they have a pulsator that couples the fuel pump to the fuel line in the tank and are known to tear therefore it won't supply enough fuel pressure to start.check the fuel pressure should read around 60psi by cycling the key on twice. if you replace the pulsator while the tanks out you should replace the pump it will save trouble down the road.because the pump has been working extra hard to supply fuel with the torn pulsator.
