Has anybody had problems with water getting in their CAI on rainy days? And also, which intake sounds better on a 95-99maxima, a weapon r dragon, or the injen. Thanks.

I never heard of anyone having problems with water and stuff, but people say that Frankencar intake sounds AWESOME (I don't know yet - gonna order it pretty soon).

I never really had a problem with my CAI on my Eclipse and it sat much lower to the ground then the Maxima does. Granted you have to be careful going through puddles and not fly through any standing water, but just use common sense and you should be fine. Just make sure to keep your filter well oiled too, as that will also help repel any water or moisture that might come up from underneath the car.

yea i live in L.A. so it does rain a lot sometimes during winter, but i guess not a lot this year as of yet. hopefully you have the plastic guard underneath the bumper to protect it from water, but like ive seen in other forums, the intake would have to be submersed in water to actually suck it up. i love my injen and it looks great also. good luck with your decision.

i got a vid/sound clip of my 95 max with weapon-r intake. pm me if you want me to send it. you'll need a quicktime viewer. this is my second maxima and 3rd nissan with a weapon-r intake. i don't think you can beat the sound.

I have also heard that frankencars sound great. The customer support is horrible though. Intake might take up to 4 weeks to get. I ordered mine 3 weeks ago and nothing yet.

Thanks guys. I think I'm leaning toward a weapon r with the cold shield and the ram air attached to it. Looking at the dyno on the website I think I'll get like 13-17 hp out of that set up.

You might get 5-7 hp out of an intake if you are lucky. The dyno sheet you looked at was probably something that is turbo'ed. Intakes are mostly for sound and not for performance.

here's a dyno comparison of WR vs a bunch of other popular intakes. weapon r made 7.3 hp at 6000 rpm. i think this was tested on a vvti celica so i'd assume you'll at least the same power if not more from the VQ, considering this is the WAI i'll bet you can get like 10 hp from the WR CAI version.

Here's the link where i got the dyno info about the ram air and cold shield: http://www.weapon-r.com/news3.html. An IS300 would have more than 158 hp w/ an intake if it had a turbo.

im not here to debate numbers, but yes all those charts are deceiving. what they dont tell you is what they actually put out at the wheel. always expect a loss of about 15% power from 'proven' results from anything that increases power to your car. they say those numbers when they dyno cars, but its not that much at the wheel. i do hope you realize that youre car will get sluggish when it is hot because my max feels like it cant go anywhere during warm days, but at night its a totally different story. an intake is also just intake. all it is doing is increasing the amount of air allowed to go in and it removes the airbox and other parts depending on what you buy. so yes it is basically for sound with a little increase in performance. is300s with a good turbo are like suped up supras because they have similar engines and if you search around you will see that is correct. is300's with only intakes are comparable, if not better, to my 98 max. in short i agree with n1smo :X do what im going to do and save your money to get the a turbo kit because that is when you will definitely gain a lot of power.
enjetek.com/maxima -getting it back this week!
in the same folder look for image 14. i won! it will go towards turbo maybe :X

yeah but the main point of the dyno is the difference between the base number and after the modification it's still an 8 hp increase. when you deduct 8-10% for drivetriain loss that same 8 hp is still figured in there. if both dyno's are taken the exact same way then the numbers are viable.

Well I would get a turbo but I already have 100k+ on my engine and I also make 7.45 an hour at a grocery store. So, I think I'll stick with the lower budget mods. It's pretty much a toss up with the intake war.....who really notices 3 or 4 hp? Bottom line: they all add pretty much the same power; go with what sounds the best at the best price.
And also, does anybody think the weapon r ram air is worth the sixty bucks?

by $60 ebay intake does the job. same thing as frankencar's EXACTLY.... i'd say it gets a good 4-5hp out.
the sound is great. that's the main reason i got it, to pick on some local honda guys and make them think my max is supercharged :evillol:

1. Once the search on the maxima.org forums is back I'll post
2. Once I get it myself and dyno it - I'll post

i don't really think there is definitive proof for which intake is best. it comes down to sound preference, price, and quality. i would go with frankencar, heard only good things about them...except for customer service. they just don't have enough employees to keep up with demand
