i have a 97 caravan that ran great untill now.
it all started about 2 weeks ago my service engine soon light came on, then the other day while driving my batt. light came on and i realized that the positive batt. cable was loose after fixing that the lights on the a.c unit began to flash so i disconnected the batt.that didnt help. i then found out the button code for reseting the flashing lights and thats fine and so is the batt. light BUT, now it wont shift out of 2nd gear and it will not move in reverse unless it feels like it and even when it will its very slow. if anyone has any ideas what this may be please help me cause im broke and dont want to spend huge $$ on a rip of artist.
thanks.....

If its good on transmission fluid then your transmission shift plates are froze. So that means you have two choices... Change the transmission fluid and filter, if that dont work, new transmission.!

In my travels through cyberspace looking for information about some problems I'm having with my 96 GC transmission, I ran across this site that contains a wealth of data. Perhaps it will help others with Chrysler tranny questions. See http://www.allpar.com/fix/trans.html.

Some Chysler vehicles, including the Voyager/Caravan/Town and Country line have a built in safety called "limp-home" mode. This only allows you to get first and second gears when the van notices there is a transmission problem. Get to a tranny shop asap.
